I can't tell everyone enough how lucky I am. I found out thru the mayors telephone updates just now that out of the 11,000 people in our town area about 9,000 had lost power. I couldn't write down the numbers fast enough to remember them but the still without power number is very high. We have a large very great Hospital in our town which was in the part of town without power. They only got power back to the hospital and surrounding areas this morning. That length of time for the hospital to not have power restored is unheard of here. Of course it has emergeny generators so patients are never in danger.

Since I am one of the lucky ones, I watch the news and see what is going on in the area. It is unbelievable in NJ. The flooding from the storms most of the rivers have not yet even reached the highest creasting. NJ already looks like a giant lake!

In our county the south shore has many low lying areas that totally flooded from the storm surge. Watching many homeowners that lost all there possessions inside the house like pictures and memories. Then there are the people that have trees down on top of the house. Really, really bad.

It sure is terrible. I can't imagine being in that situation. I sure hope the water recedes quickly.

Thanks, Betty. I walk around the garden and there are very few blooms left. Of course I did miss blooms from Saturday till today that I might have been able to photograph but I guess it all has to end some time. I will make it till September and that makes for a long time of daylily blooms here.

Rita..you mentioned that you use straw for mulching your daylilies in the summer. Do you use something different in the winter? I do not have any daylilies but I have written down some of yours that I like a lot and will look them up to see their blooming time and if they are rebloomers. When you have a name enclosed like (Curt Hansons) is that the person you purchased it from or that person shared it with you? I have to do some more reseach and find out more about daylilies..the more pictures I see of them, the more I want to try to grow them. I had Stella D'ora once and guess I didn't know anything about where it would grow best because we dug it up and it went into yard waste after the 2nd. or 3rd. yr. Do you deadhead yours every day? That's a lot of deadheading with as many as you have! What happens to your daylily beds in the winter? Do they go dormant? I had to look several times at Two Janes and Rich in Mercy as they are very similar but after comparing their color differences, Rich in Mercy is a deeper color and I like that best I think. I have dear friends whose last name is Janes so I was looking at it for that very reason. I've seen Chicago Apache on Gatsby's Gardens blog and love it.

I'm sure as organized and knowledgeable as you appear to be, how do you manage to know the names of all those you have. I didn't see any plant markers showing in any of your pictures. What type do you use? Could you show a picture of how your markers are made up and displayed. Do you use a label maker with laminated labels?

I just came over here to make sure Rita was safe, and look at the last of the blooms. Your daylilies are just gorgeous, Rita, and the pictures are wonderful. And I'm so glad you came through the storm with little damage.

Thanks, Polly and Christine. I am truely lucky that all is well here at my house.

Pippi, When you look for rebloom, please remember that just because a daylily is listed as reblooming doesn't mean it will rebloom in all areas of the country. It depends on were the daylily was hbridized and were in the country one lives.

The names in () are the names of the hybridizer (creator) of the daylily. No, I don't deadhead. I only deadhead what I need to in order to take my pictures. I just leave everthing else.

I have all sorts, evergreen, semi evergreen and dormant so many times even the evergreens go dormant. Depents on the winter.

Two Janes and Rich in Mercy really are not even close to similiar. Rich in Mercy has the edge and ruffeling which Two Janes doesn't have. It is also much heavier in substance.

Well, I am not out there mulching in the winter. But if I put down the straw I leave it. Never take it up. Eventually it dissapears on its own. If I have fall leaves I use them too for mulching. If not, I just use the straw. I have to mulch my garden. If I didn't the weeds would take over the world.

I don't like the looks of plant signs so my markers are not noticeable. They are fairly small. White Radi Clip (brand) 8 inch white plant markers.

Rita, isn't it amazing the daylilies can go through a big storm like that and just keep blooming like nothing happened!

Quite a few of mine are still blooming, and look like they will keep going for a while - love those bud builders!
