Cold and cloudy this morning. I will be happy that the days will start to become longer after tomorrow. nodding

We had a real terror this morning. Temp. last night was predicted to be 37. Got up & the weather station said 34.5. Turned on the water & it was about half pressure (we are on a well) then quickly decreased to a trickle & then stopped altogether. Uh oh! Opened cabinets & faucets in baths & kitchen. Went out with flashlight to see if there were any burst pipes @ the well or spigots. Whew! No sign of that. Opened hose bibs. Got microwave heating pads, nuked them & laid them on hose bibs then got the hair dryer & went to the hose bib closest to where the water line comes into the slab & turned that on - stood there holding it & managed to prop it where it blew directly in that area. About 5 minutes & the water came on in the house. Whew! Whew! Whew! Wiping sweat off brow here.
That's the last time I trust the weather guessers when they say a low of 37.

Now I look at predictions & they've raised Christmas to GULP! 85 degrees! Blinking Blinking Blinking Blinking Blinking Blinking Blinking

85F for Christmas should be against the law.

We got 0.09 inches of rain last night. They are calling for a high of 61F.

32 and breezy here, but there are beautiful blue skies and the sun is out! Hurray! More snow on the way later, so I'm going to enjoy this while it lasts!

We still can't figure out how the pipes froze. Confused Confused Confused We've been up here 4 winters -- 2 in this house & had plenty of times when it was 34 degrees & we didn't leave sinks or hose bibs dripping & never had a single problem. Even when it gets 32 degrees here; it doesn't last long -- an hour or two. The 2 bird baths weren't frozen solid & 1 was half empty - they just had a crust on them. There's no way I think it was 34.5 for several hours last night!!! When we were in the rental for 2 winters, it got down into the 20's & we never left sinks dripping much less hose bibs & never a problem. (We didn't know any better at the time otherwise would have left things dripping)

Yes, 85 on Xmas is nuts! We've had plenty of 87/88/89 degree Xmas's but that was 350 miles south of here. 85 here on Xmas is unheard of.

Natty, enjoy the blue skies & sun! Hurray! Hurray!

Ann, maybe it would be worth getting some faucet covers? We've always used them, and have never once had a problem with the hose bib freezing. The only problem we've had with them is that puppies seem to be very attracted to them! Every puppy we've ever had has ran off with them! Rolling on the floor laughing Luckily they are cheap. I usually get them at Home Depot for a couple of dollars.

Thumbs down Ann we were without water for several hours a couple weeks ago and it is no fun for sure. I was seeing the water gradually getting lower and lower pressure wise. I called the water company and I was the only one as usual that was reporting an issue. They said it was probably at our house and that we needed a new regulator. I did not think it was our problem. They sent a man out even though it was around 9 at night and I was right. They had a water line break and people were finally calling in. So do not like not having water! Crying 85 for Christmas must be against some law!!!

Yup, definitely getting some of those Natty. Thanks for doing the research finding them for me. Hilarious! Hilarious! Also going to get some quick connectors for the hoses.

Ann, many grocery stores sell those things here and in Utah. But, probably not where you live. Maybe a hardware store there would have them, if you don't want to wait for delivery. I always keep extras on hand, in case one of the dogs can't resist themselves. I don't know why these things have been so attractive to the dogs! Well, puppies, anyway. I'm not putting it past Jackson to take off with them this year too, since he's still young.

I've got quick connects on every faucet and hose here now. Can't imagine how I survived without them! Hilarious! I also bought extra male ends for all the add-ons, like spray nozzles and sprinklers. Makes things so much easier and faster!

It's getting darker out, and the radar shows a bunch of snow on the way. Should start at any time. It's a little above freezing, so I am really hoping that it will be snow instead of freezing rain.

Linda, you're just Johnny On The Spot & your neighbors are slow pokes. I'm glad you called when you did though so you didn't have to be w/o water any longer than you were. I thought when it was 1/2 pressure this morn that when I left it running it would clear out the "partially frozen" line. Never imagined the water would dry up like the Sahara. Blinking I did manage to get a tea pot full before it quit though so we did have coffee water. Hurray! We have about a dozen soda size bottles of (old) drinking water in the garage - we wouldn't trust it to drink anymore - but we can use it for other necessaries.

I think I can wait for them to come from online ordering. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!
I had some Gardena quick connect jobbies down south & got super spoiled! Time to do that here.

Isn't it just crazy??? From freezing pipes to go lay in the sun & get a tan all in the blink of an eye.
