No blooms here, but hopefully next year I will see some late bloomers.

I spent several weekends building, painting, filling with pine fines & soil, and planting my newest acquired daylilies. I went from having NO named & registered daylilies to now having 49 ... all were obtained within the past year (with most of them received this Spring & Summer with a few others received recently this Fall).

First let me say I was amazed at the root growth and the additional fans that have appeared since I received most of these daylilies. They have all been growing in nursery pots (some for almost a year in those pots).

Here's the potted daylilies sitting in their new raised beds:

This is the larger raised bed. Yes! I did squeeze 41 daylilies in that bed and I know I will regret it, but what's a gardener to do when they don't have a lot of property?!

Thumb of 2015-10-05/beckygardener/3941f6

This is the smaller raised bed in front of my vertical herb garden. (I squeezed 8 daylilies in this bed!) I wonder if I could make a vertical daylily garden? Hmmmm .... might be a possibility!

Thumb of 2015-10-05/beckygardener/8b17f2

This is what most all of the daylily's roots looked like except the very newest acquired plants:

Thumb of 2015-10-05/beckygardener/00d5fc

After the daylilies were planted it rained! Perfect timing! This bed is a key-hole raised bed.

Thumb of 2015-10-05/beckygardener/a45dc2

The smaller raised bed:

Thumb of 2015-10-05/beckygardener/45d7c1

These two raised beds were made using concrete pavers turned on their sides and adhered together with construction adhesive. I avoid wood for the frame of raised beds because it rots here in Florida in no time at all. Plus there are termites and carpenter ants. I've decided I only want to make these beds .... ONCE!!!!

Why the keyhole shape..? If you had made it rectangular you could have put at least 5 or 6 more DL's in Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I don't know why I am not getting any rebloom. Maybe sunlight is not enough? The garden is hit by sun light for very few hours (I think every portion of the garden gets 1 hour of sun) and we had some cold days and nights (46-55 F) and it rained a lot.
Almost all DLs are putting new foliage, some has a new fan growing (they were almost all single fans).
Stella is still blooming, not many blooms but there are some and I noticed they last longer too.
For my little seedlings I am arranging a cold crate on the balcony, in the opposite side of the garden, it faces east and it gets sunlight from dawn to noon (really not from dawn because the sun is behind mountains).
I hate surrounding mountains, they make a lot of shade and clouds. I also hate so close surrounding houses. I need light. Sighing!

Becky, I love your raised beds. Mayo has a point about the keyhole... there is room for a few more, Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing My guess is that because of the width of the bed, you needed a space to 'step inside' to the middle section.

Mayo, I love seeing your seedlings. I have seeds in the fridge and now I want to get them out and do something with them.

Great to see October blooms everyone. I have nothing blooming and only one scape on Seal of Approval that will probably never make it to bloom. The low temps have been in the 50's. Unless we have a warm October, my daylilies are done.

Mayo - Thank you! I actually DO know how to make a vertical daylily garden, but because I am not using wood anymore, it would not work. But there are other ways to build one. I may eventually have to create one. Big Grin Thumbs up

Vickie - Thank you. And yes, you are correct that the keyhole shape was designed so that I can get to the daylilies in the middle of the bed (without stepping into the bed) to care for them and also for pollinating blooms.

The reddish-brown paint is to honor my original gardening plan of attracting hummingbirds. Which I still do grow plants for them and the butterflies. And it works! I had a hummer perching very near all day long as I worked in the backyard. He would fly from my rose arbor to the Cassia tree observing what I was doing! (He probably thought I was nuts! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! )

Sabrina - It seems the majority of us here are short on property and sunlight. I feel your frustration. Sad

Becky, it's a bit darker than the picture....the prettiest red/purple that I've seen. It's not a bright cherry. I hope the weather stays warm enough for the other buds to open.

These are probably my last blooms for the year. I do have a scape on SHADES OF ROYALTY, but I think it will bloom while we're on vacation.

LITTLE MUCHA MINTO - And I can definitely see a very pastel pattern on this last bloom!

I found a new scape on Schnickel Fritz this morning! Thumbs up

However I'm wondering if it will bloom, as temps are expected to drop to the high 50's during the day and the low 40's at night later this week. We'll see Hilarious!

Hmm. Yes, great ideas for smal(ler) plants, but for DL's we would need something a lot sturdier and bigger! Whistling

The chest of drawers would work depending on size of drawers. Some of the woollypockets - I think - are also a good size (I could be wrong). If one could buy the material that is used to make those pockets, any size could be created. I LOVE the concept of these pockets:
