Thanks Vickie,
I've never had blooms this late in the season. I ground planted Bright in The Night in August and got blooms in October. I'm not sure what those white spots are on the sepals.

Sometimes a daylily will just do that, but not sure why. I get it sometimes too.

I have been having blooms on my Maryott's plants, as well as, some late rebloom scapes. Most have not opened well, but a few did. These are from the past week.

All I have left in bloom is one bud on Royal Frosting and several left on Heavenly Angel Ice.

Here was HAI in bloom today. 3 blooms emerged today!

Nope - freezing pollen for next year. I am trying to build a library of frozen pollen from all of my plants. I have a few with scapes now that I am trying to get a bloom or two worth of pollen. THE STING (which I've had since it was introduced and this is the first scape!), PURPLE STARFISH, and WANDA EVANS.

I have a whole bunch of frozen pollen, too. It was a good thing, too, because otherwise I'd have nothing to attempt to pollinate my Heavenly Angel Ice with. (Although I'm really wondering if any of the seedpods on it will even make it to maturity before frost starts killing everything off.)

...and if it were for being able to freeze pollen, I also wouldn't have anything left of my beloved Titan of Ice, which I'm REALLY hoping makes a comeback next year. I'm resisting the urge to dig it up and see what the roots look like right now since I moved/replanted it about a month ago to give it a better growing spot.

Anyway, though, that bloom of Viva Las Vegas looks beautiful. Funny, too, that my family is in Las Vegas at the moment.

I think the color is a bit off because the buds developed during some cool/cold nights.

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Well, I was outside pulling weeds around my different garden beds and watering the new daylily raised beds and notice a scape on one of my newest acquisitions that sure popped up fast. I received my first order ever from Maryott's on Sept. 25 and one of the triple fanned daylilies was Zoe Allegra. She now has this scape from one fan and another scape forming in a second fan. Zoe Allegra is supposed to be a mid-season bloomer, so is this unusual for this cultivar to bloom now? Or do these daylily nurseries do some kind of treatment (fertilizer?) to get them to bloom after they dig and ship them to their customers? To say that I am surprised to see a scape (or two) on a newly received daylily in October is an understatement!

Zoe Allegra:

This is the second fan which looks like a scape forming in the middle of the fan:

Becky I'm so envious! And Happy for your surprising blooms!
Is there a sort of connection to number of fans and blooming? Or is it just a matter of how mature a DL is?

Becky, 5 of my Maryott's have scapes on them. Two have been blooming (slowly). The others probably won't get big enough for me to even cut and bring in before our big frost next Monday morning!!!

None of my other plants from 3 other nurseries have done this.

Sabrina - I would think a more mature daylily given the right growing conditions would be a reliable bloomer. But how does it happen that a mid-season bloomer which is also a newly transplanted 3-fans would bloom in October? I am wondering why that would happen?

I hope someone here can enlighten me.

Heidi - Thanks for telling me about your daylilies from Maryott's blooming too. Did you recently receive this order of daylilies?

I am guessing that Maryott's treated these daylilies (either with fertilizer or something) to force them to bloom after selling and being transplanted. I would love to know what they do! I have very mild Winters here so mine could literally bloom at any time, but all daylilies have a bloom season. So how does that happen?

I got my Maryotts order in July and two of the plants bloomed in September/October, and I've never had blooms this late in the season. I don't know what they are doing but I like it.

According to their website, they don't start shipping until June, when most of my spring planting is done. I plan to order a few more plants from them next spring.
