More seeds than space...lol...tell me about it!

I wouldn't sell without Mike. Even though we have never met, I consider him a good friend in world of daylilies. Been selling for 13 years, and have never been a major player, and I have always been treated like one. Mike runs a wonderful house.

I had an issue with 1 seller and Mike made sure it was addressed and made right. I trust the LA and don't think I would purchase seeds anywhere else. I've even purchased a couple of seedlings from the LA. I've yet to purchase any registered daylily fans though. Usually I can find the plant for cheaper from an online nursery or garden. And I've gotten some GREAT registered daylily plant deals from members here on ATP!

I think as the economy limps back into shape we will continue to see seed sales and seedling sales go strong. It's interesting to me which hybridizer's plants hold their value and which ones are selling for a fraction of the introduction price one or two years later. I know some of it has to do with how the plant increases, how much there was to sell the initial year, etc., but still some folks' DL hold their value more than others.

I second this. I had a problem last year and even well later than normally would have been the case Mike helped me deal with it, and refunded the fees on those auctions. The fees can add up but the other options aren't nearly as appealing and have increased overhead and time I would think.

Forecast low was 36. It's currently 32 and falling. I'm reveling in opting out of a ticket to tonights football game. Enjoying being warm. The football less so...

I will add, as a heavy buyer of seeds this season, and even getting caught up in some of the auctions a bit too hard. I bought this year since me and my wife ditched the horrible condo living situation we got ourselves into and bought a home in February. So I had to supplement with seed buys... and there where some genes I wanted, and didn't feel like waiting 1-2 years to make the crosses myself since all the plants in my garden are new plantings and I rather see them establish faster then pump out seeds. So buy buy buy... till I can just make the crosses myself. But there will always be a new intro that I'll want seed from but not bad enough to go buy them. And a big thanks to Steve and James... both are awesome sellers!

Listen, if all seed buyers were like you I would sell seeds forever. Thanks for making this year special, and be sure to share pictures of your seedlings.

I didn't either. I guess if the fees are high though, as Leslie mentioned, I can see why some people wouldn't want to sell seeds there. I've never sold anything on there, personally, but I had intended to dip my toes into the waters at some point in the future just to see what it's like. Gotta start somewhere, I suppose. Maybe I'll wait a year or two, though, until I have some more amazing crosses that people would be more interested in. I currently hybridize more for landscape value rather than the amazing-individual-bloom that is the trend right now, so it might make it tough for me to find buyers. But I digress. It's interesting to know that more people are turning to Facebook. If/when I trade or sell daylily seeds in the future, it sounds like I should look into Facebook and consider the marketing/visibility challenges that would face me in the Facebook platform.

I, personally, am not a fan of Facebook. Had what I think was a hacker on my account. There is no protection from identity thief there either.

Mike may be charging higher fees than some folks want to pay, but he runs a very tight and professional site and is quick to follow up if any problems arise. When it comes to dealing with my hard-earned $$'s and my identity, I prefer to play it safe, thank you very much! (And NO! I am not affiliated with the LA or Mike.)

somehow I have more confidence in the LA auction than those on FB..
As far as I know nobody regulates the auctions on FB, you do business with the seller directly
So if you pay and don't receive your win, it's just your own risk

Also, LA has a great overview of everything that is being offered, FB doesn't
No FB for me, I'll stick with the LA

20 cents per listing, and between 5% and 6% of final sales isn't that high, is it...?

Well, after having had an issue with a seller on the LA, it probably would not have been resolved to my satisfaction had it not been for Mike. And I heard that others had an issue with this seller at that time, too. So whose to say that a seller couldn't run numerous auctions, collect funds, and then not deliver?

From what I understand, Mike guarantees those auctions. And if you purchase registered daylilies and they wind up being something else when they bloom, Mike takes care of that by dealing with the seller, so that you get a new daylily plant or a refund of your money or some other arrangement.

I also had an issue with an auction from a very good seller. He listed a seedling but when it came time to ship it to me, he realized that he had listed the wrong cross, so the auction seedling that I won, did not exist. The seller gave me the option of a refund or picking a different seedling (which is what I chose). I was disappointed, but do love the seedlings that I did receive in the end.

Where would be the protection on Facebook?

Mike has helped me tremendously with several issues I have had with customers. I will continue to sell on LA.

I actually do not think Mike's charges are all that bad compared to selling on Ebay.
