All are correct!
I know this will sound dumb, but the auction also helps in my own selection. I keep immaculate records. You have to if you sell seeds. But...I am not one to look back at pedigree too much in seed selection. I cross by feel mainly, on what I see open that day and what pollen it is calling me to use. There are some crosses I make that the seeds go directly into my keeper bag. Crosses that I had long ago planned to make. But, there are also some crosses I put in the keeper bag based on how they did on the auction. Bonkers or not, I think there is a tremendous amount of knowledge in the bidders, and I would like to think that they collectively know much more then I do, so each year as I cull down 10000s of seeds, I also listen to my buyers in some my own selections.
I can't tell you how many times I will be talking to the most wonderful Judy Davisson, and she will say something about a cross I have made, that it made such perfect sense because of background of X and the characteristics of Y. I may not have a clue what she is talking about, but you can be sure I listen....lol.
