I had excellent pod set on new plants of Indigo Dragon and Skylab (Trimmer-J.) as well as Soli Deo Gloria (Emmerich). All three of these plants set easily on primary and rebloom scapes, looking like clusters of grapes. Also, all three held color, substance and 'finish' very well under cloudless skies with 30% humidity.

Soli Deo Gloria was very impressive. Karol sent two very large fans this spring, and they really put on a show. I put one in sun and the other in the shade, and they both set pods equally well. My evenings tend to cool off quickly, and are typically well under 60 F by 9:00, so daylilies don't always open well or show off their most voluptuous faces here. In spite of that, SDG managed to display every 'look' shown on Karol's website. Like she says, expect a little thrip damage at first, then every bloom is better than the last.

Best pod setters ever for me are Orange blossom Trail and Dragonfly Dawn.

Dragonfly Dawn had 38 pods from 12 scapes. Not every scape had a pod as it was too cold yet to set pods and it rained for two months. I get a fresh plant every year from Dan Trimmer just so I can load it with pods. I got three large fans from Dan Trimmer and it increased to I think 12 fans, smaller of course after dividing.

Orange Blossom Trail pods, the year this was taken I had over 50 pods on my clump. What is amazing about OBT is you can load it down with pods and the next year it still looks just the same and will set lots of pods again.

Other good pod setters for me are American Flyer, Cutting Loose, Midnight Amulet,
Power Surge, Lillian's Deceitful Lies, Port Orange, Sherry Candy, Precious Candy, Sunday River and Very Berry Candy.

All,
We had 52 pods on Mayor of Munchkinland. Those were the first seeds I planted, to get them growing ASAP. Watered them and the rest of the bed they are in today. I don't know what the seedlings will look like, but we can dream. Some other little ones who set lots of pods: Butterpat, Bacon Baby, Little Raven, Dewy Sweet, Little Miss Independent, Lollipop Kid, Crystal Blue Persuasion, and some others I can't remember now. Rose F. Kennedy always produces many pods, as does Lady Duck, Emerald Starburst, Dragonfly Dawn. Got several from Whale Tails and Bass Gibson. Many toothy ones don't form many seeds, we sold off a bunch of them, as our interests have changed. Lots of seeds and proliferations on many in the Oz bed. We don't pollinate nearly as many as we used to do, trying to concentrate on small/minis and patterns (like everyone else!), but still dab a little on spiders. Next summer, hope to concentrate more on crossing our seedlings to get some traits to show up even more. Ain't it all fun?

Dot - Loved the pod photos! Pretty amazing!

David - Funny how our interests can change from one year to the next. Always an adventure! Thumbs up

Dorothy, that's a LOT of pods (38 on 12 scapes). Where do you get those labels? They look like they work well.

Is there a limit as to how many pods should be allowed to set on a single scape? It seems too many would weaken the plant.

There is no published information about the effect of pods on daylily growth and flowering. However, it is likely that the effects of setting many pods on a single scape would be visible in the next year (or growth cycle) of that fan or crown. It would also depend on the number of fans in one crown and whether they had set pods and how many. It would also depend on how well the daylilies are being grown - that is how close to optimally they are watered, fertilized, divided, weeded, etc.
