Scott, do you think Cordyline 'Rainbow Red' is the same plant as 'Princess Kayla'?

The leaves of the plant I have, ID'd as 'Rainbow Red', seem to be a bit wider, but of course this might be an artifact of growth conditions. The colors look identical.

This is my absolute favorite of my collection. Very difficult to photograph and capture the colors, but an incredibly beautiful mix of reddish browns and olive greens.

[It's also possible the 'Rainbow Red' ID on my plant is incorrect.]

Ron, My thinking is 'P. Kayla', 'P. Leisha' and 'Rainbow Red' are the same. I have not seen R. R in person only in photos and that is listed as the name with the International Cordyline Society. My two plants came from two different islands in Hawaii. It becomes confusing as regional names are many times attached to these plants. I grow mine with the regional name they originate under. In my garden you would see the same looking plant under different names.
Another well known one is 'Miss Andrea'(I know how that name came attached) , Chocolate Dancer', 'Mocha Latte' and 'Chocolate Queen' I grow all four of these, and if I were a betting man I would say they were the same. At times of the year I think they look a little different, but that just may be my mind seeing what it wants to see.

I wondered about that, I have seen what I thought was Miss Andrea under different names.

Thanks, Scott.

I also own 'Chocolate Queen'. At some point in the past, someone corrected me saying it was 'Mocha Latte'. I liked that name better, but when I Googled it I was faced with the names you mentioned (and maybe more). Knowing Ti plants vary with the amount of sun they receive and other culture conditions, as well as the time of year the photo is taken, it was all very confusing. And knowing the wealth of misinformation and mis-ID's freely available on the internet, I just gave up and kept the original ID.

These two Cordylines, along with my Cordyline 'Electra' came as cuttings with "probable" ID's. In researching on the internet I was never able to absolutely confirm or refute any of the ID's. It sure would be nice if Cordyline cultivars were legally registered.

By the way, are you (or anyone else) familiar with the rather nondescript brownish Cordyline out front of Disney's Polynesian Village Resort in Orlando? It is near the sidewalk, and I believe the only Cordyline in the bed. In April of 2014 I nicked a couple berries from one of the clusters of seed on the plant and ended up with four seed-grown plants.

All are different (of course) and three of them are quite nice! The fourth needs to be moved into a better situation, but recently started showing some nice red streaks in the new leaves. The first three are blooming this year. I would love to put a parental ID to these plants.

I try to give it as much color as possible without flowers.

Here are photos taken yesterday of the "Miss Andrea" confusion of names. I will list with the purchased as name and sun conditions.
Top left- Miss Andrea growing in filtered sun.
Top right- Miss Andrea growing in full north west location sun. Gets hit with our N.W. cold winter winds.
Center- Chocolate Queen shade grown with no direct sun.
Bottom left- Mocha Latte growing in filtered sun getting hit with full sun in late evening.
Bottom Right- Chocolate Dancer growing in filtered sun with late day full sun.

I will update the photos of these plants in a few months to show the seasonal change to each.

Great comparison! This is a cutting of my Miss Andrea, I took in late December and it has been in the house all winter. Good thing I have it, the deer or the rabbits devoured the mother plant and while it will come back, it will be a slow process. I love the watercolor effect on the leaves. 'Miss Andrea' has been reliably hardy for me here in the very coldest part of zone 9a.
