Hetty, Here is a photo of my 'Singapore Twist' (aka 'Showgirl' and 'New Guienea Fan') purchased last summer.
It is the most expensive Ti that I have ever purchased... but I wanted one real bad. To me it was worth the money. I was also given a pretty lg cutting from a fellow Ti grower last spring as a surprise gift, but failed to root. He also failed to root his cuttings.

This will be grown as a potted plant by the pool as there is now way I am going to stick it in the ground.

I don't blame you, Scott, that one is fantastically gorgeous! I assume your pool is in an enclosure too, right? Ours in the west are all out in the open.

Karen, Yes the pool is enclosed and the most special plants get to live in it. I know from past experience what a hail storm can do to Ti plants.

Oh yes, hail can ruin almost any plant. We had a bad hailstorm one year in NM. It shredded all of our screens, broke all of the plastic on our travel trailer roof, and shredded most of my plants. Here is a pic of it. That isn't snow! I'm glad your special plants are safe inside the enclosure.

Karen, I have not had to deal with that much hail (knock on wood). Here we have to deal with the pea size hail in our thunderstorms a few times a year. Most of the time it is no big deal. I have only dealt with 2 damaging hail storms in 20 yrs here. I try to protect most plants, by planting with overhead tree canopy.

Hetty, What type of sun conditions are you growing 'Morning Sunshine' in? My plant has not lived up to looking good like yours and I want to rip it out at times. My plant gets a lot of afternoon sun that I now believe this one dislikes.

Scott, that one was purchased at a nursery and planted just before I took this picture (in a friend's yard). It gets (GULP) afternoon sun there, so we may need to rethink its location.....

Those are beautiful plants, Scott. Planting under the canopies of trees makes a lot of sense in many ways. Great way to help protect from hail storms.
