Since I use the Ti leaves for lei making, I invested in a few green ones.

I found a piece of Miss Andrea in the shrubbery last Sunday. It was obviously a result of Hurricane Matthew's wrath. This piece seems happy though, look at those roots after only 5 days in water. I may lose the mother plant as it is in a low spot that was likely bathed in salt water during the surge. We'll see.

Wow, that's impressive. I'm so sorry about the possibility of losing the mother plant. Hopefully, she'll pull through. Plants have the amazing ability to adjust/regenerate and pull through adversities. Thumbs up

Alice, Did you occur much damage from Matthew? The Ti is said to be a moderate salt tolerant plant and are pretty tough plants otherwise.
Here is are a few photos for you to enjoy...

I agree , truly gorgeous. What is that material you were using to build up the soil in that May 2016 before photo. It looks like the wrack or dead marsh grass that washed up all over the place here after Matthew.

ScotTi, we were ever so fortunate. We had mountains of small branches and pieces of plants like the Ti to clean up but nothing major. The tide even stayed away from my home while it infiltrated my next door neighbor's garage and crawl space. Live Oaks shed leaves and twigs during bad storms and Loblolly Pines lose branches. The streets on either side of mine had massive damage with huge trees down. Our biggest loss was the food in our fridge/freezers but heck, they needed cleaning anyway. I am still pinching myself because we were so lucky.

Thanks for mentioning the salt tolerance of Ti's, that's good to know.

Alice, Very happy to hear you had no major damage from the storm. Hurray!
I try to garden more natural now and use my plant trimmings to mulch. That area was a little low and in the wet season was like a swamp. Over the few years I kind of used it as a staging area for the palm leaves and such awaiting my chipper to turn them into mulch to build up the area.

I have a fondness for the dark color Ti, so I will share a photo of my 'Black Cobra'. The leaves turn up giving the appearance of a striking Cobra. The parent Ti on this one was 'Xerox'.

Scott, I too have a special fondness for the dark-leaved Ti's. Your 'Black Cobra' is awesome.

Lin, this nursery, open by appointment only, is in Vero Beach, that's not too far from you is it? Looks like they have a good selection of Ti's along with the crotons.
