Cross posted with Dave, that does make sense! I like it.

Great system!

I am guilty of still adding things. I am gathering seeds as I do my fall cleanup and as I delve into my seed box Is there a day when we should stop making changes?

@GardenQuilts you can continue to add items to your trade list even all the way up to the final day of trading. If you do so, you might want to post to the chat thread in this forum saying something about what you just added, otherwise nobody may notice it.

...

So, it looks like there's mixed feelings on starting it with 3 tickets per person on opening day. This is a beta, so I think we should just go with that number and see how it goes.

I agree with this; especially for someone that couldn't start right when the "gates open," (which doesn't apply to me, LOL) there will be a better chance of getting something high on their "want list."

I also really like the idea that the seeds we request will help those members get more dibs; that's an incentive for me to kind of spread my requests out to different people Smiling

BTW, again I have to praise this group. I asked for feedback on a specific issue and within an hour I had over a dozen thoughtful replies. Thank you!!

I really appreciate the "dibs roll over" feature. That takes the pressure off.

>> But if we start everybody off with 6 tickets on day 1 then it's more likely that everything nice will be all taken on day 1.

"3, 6, 9, 12 ..."

I was thinking that the ramp-up is so fast that "throttling" is almost over by day 3. Maybe if many people do not get their first few urgent requests, they'll still be sweating even after having had 18 requests by the end of Day 3.

My own scenario is that I don't expect to have a very long "Must have" list unless someone hosts a swap with a theme near and dear to my heart. Usually I don't expect the things I'll be interested in to have many eager requestors, so my ideas about throttling don't matter much.

I am totally fine with however Dave wants to do it, as long as future hosts get to chose how much throttling they want.

I might have picked a shallow ramp that disappears after just 5 days, like:

3, 4, 5, 7, 9, no limit

But I've been known to sit out the first day to let the dust settle.

As it currently stands, the future host will be able to determine the tickets multiplier.

So a day or so before trading begins, the host will look at the trade lists and decide for her self what's the right number. For me, that's probably a 3 so I'll be entering three into that field in the host control panel. Others may want it to be 1 and others may want it to be 10 (or even higher.)

The part that is computed will be the ramp up over time as the days of trading progress.

I like what you have done Dave. I like the low initial number. Gives everyone a chance on day one.

My next question is, when do you apply the extra dibs (the ones I get when someone picks my item). Is that dynamically done? Or at day's end?

Next question. What would happen if I pick something and change my mind. I don't plan to do this, but just asking.

And to think, you did all this without having to raise any numbers to a fractional power 😀

Good job

The limits also help on the other end - as we are filling the requests. It won't be so overwelming in the event that everyone is racing for your seeds.

The bonus dibs are granted as soon as someone picks your items. They will be fractional like acorns. So if someone takes an item from you on day one, you'll get half a ticket and now you have 3.5 tickets. So you can only claim 3 items. But when someone else claims an item from you, you'll get another half a ticket and now you have 4.0 tickets to use.

Someone claiming your item on day 2 gives you .34 tickets. Day 3 gives you something like .2 tickets.

If you pick something and change your mind, you can cancel it. But I'll need to find a safe way to either revoke the bonus that was previously granted to the seller of that item, or something.... Otherwise people could add then delete all day long and give someone else hundreds of tickets which would obviously be unfair.

If someone picks 20 items from your list ---then all of sudden you have ten extra dibs? Don't like that.

Elena, I just saw that too but there's isn't a dibs button available yet, might just be working on the program right now.

I'm getting excited! The opening day should be so much fun! Green Grin!

Well, isn't it fair to reward the people who are offering popular and highly sought after items?

I guess so, but I could see someone who starts right when the gates open getting many dibbs. Another person who can't be there when the gates open but has many things picked from their list won't get as many dibbs. Even though they are offering popular and high demand items, also. Did that make sense?
