I'm guilty of adding things last night! I meant to do it last week but never got around to it. I'm planning on deciding this weekend what else to offer. That way I won't have to add anything once swapping starts.

...or are you making a requested list for us too? Smiling

When you actually claim an item, it will indeed remove it from your wishlist (if it was there) and then it will show an icon next to it, indicating that you've requested it. You will then be able to view the list showing only your requested items, so you can know what you're currently lined up to receive. You won't have to rely on your memory. Smiling

Did we ever decide on a limit? Per day?

That's my main TODO item today, is to come up with an algorithm to figure out the limit.

I think this might be what was decided. How many dibs will depend on how many seeds are offered, so that's probably why we don't know yet??

dave said:That's an interesting idea.

I think there's an algorithm here that I can make that makes sense. Something like:

Average amount of offers per member / Number of Participants / Number of days of trading still ahead of us.

So as you get nearer to the end you can do more dibs since by then everyone has gotten the things they can't live without.

I've been spending my morning coming up with the complete algorithm. It will be based on a number of factors, taking into account the size of the swap, the number of participants, and how many days the trading runs/

You will get a daily allowance of dibs tickets that you can use. They do roll over to the next day if you forget to spend them.

As trading begins, you'll be awarded additional dibs tickets as people claim the offers you're offering. So as people snap up your items, you will be rewarded with extra dibs of your own.

That's how it will work. The details of what the actual numbers is still being worked on.

I want to emphasis this point because I think it's going to prove to be a very valuable functionality in this swap system. Not only will you gain more tickets when people claim your stuff, it also provides you with an incentive to call dibs on items, because you will be rewarding another trader by claiming their stuff. I think that's a pretty cool concept.

Seeking feedback here:

Looking at this current swap, we have 591 items with 20 people trading. There will be 13 days of active trading before we finish and start the shipping phase.

Items / Number of Traders / Days of Trading * Current Day of Trading

on day one would look like this:

591 / 20 / 13 * 1

Gives us 2.16. Rounding the fraction up gives us 3.

So if I used this algorithm, then on day one, each person could get enough tickets to claim dibs on 3 items. Then on day two, the multiplier would mean everyone each gets 6 tickets, plus any dibs bonus you may have earned from people claiming your own items.)

On day 3, you'd get 9 dibs, and on day 4, you'd get 12 dibs, and so on. On day 13 (the final day) you'd have 39 dibs (plus any bonus earned dibs.)

What do you all think about this?

It 's seems like a low starting point. Perhaps start at the day 2 numbers or 6 dibs then follow the formula out the way you have it, Day 1- 6 dibs Day 2 - 9, Day 3 - 12 etc. After that the algorithims would probably not be necessary with all the extra dibs we will get with picks. I figure after day 3 or 4 everything I want, I will have unless it is already picked.

I think that is way more dibs than I would ever use-even in a themed swap. But I am rather picky in what I want. I agree with Jay that after the first few days I'll probably have everything I want (unless people start adding items while the swap is on).

It's true that you'll end up with more tickets than you want, and that's okay. The hope is that everyone gets what they wants and the left over tickets just disappear when the swap is over.

My main concern is those early days, to make sure that everyone gets what they want.

Starting on day one with 6 dibs might seem a little high to me. Especially considering this: you will get additional dibs when people select your items. I'm thinking on day one, you get one free ticket for every 2 of your items that are claimed. So if twenty people select your items on day one, you get a whopping ten extra tickets to use on day one. That's a huge advantage, but it's deserved since obviously you're offering the highest quality items.

But if we start everybody off with 6 tickets on day 1 then it's more likely that everything nice will be all taken on day 1.

That's a lot of math for my brain Rolling on the floor laughing Pretty cool system, I like it but I agree with Jay seems a bit low for the first day, especially if one can't get online for one reason or another.

I'm presuming this will be every 24 hours? The different time zone is killing me Blinking
