I just checked my home garden, and I found prolifs on:

Wilson Spider (made them last year too)
Roswitha (made them last year too)
Loth Lorien
Margo Reed Indeed
Jerry's Whirligig
Orion's Band
and on a dip seedling from: unknown x Seriously Purple.

I will check the DL's in my veggie garden and on my allotment tomorrow Hilarious!

All my prolifs are still on the plants as most still have buds/are blooming/are forming pods.. Thumbs up

My Winter was mild and wet, my Spring cool and wet and the Summer is turning out quite nice (not too hot and enough rain), so I don't think making prolifs has anything to do with 'survival' in my case.

I had a large proliferation from thorhalla last year and I potted it and sunk the pot for the winter. This year it is big enough to go out on its own. of course, Thorhalla is a very vigorous plant!

I remember using plastic cups filled with compost to enclose the prolifs and then potting up when it got roots. But this year I will probably just plant the prolifs in a pot and overwinter outdoors.

Raven said:A question--I have potted up a few proliferations and they have been growing in small pots in my greenhouse for about a month. Freeze up will be happening soon. Do I need to bring in the prolifs or can I put them in the ground in the pots? What do people in my zone recommend?

Regina - Wow! Those are some very nice cultivars to get prolifs from! Congrats!

Think I have previousy posted this question somewhere. Does anyone think that a cultivar that produces lots of prolifs is less likely to readily be pod or pollen fertile?

Also I think that a lot of the very old reds and their descendants readily make prolifs.

@bron I have not had an issue with pod fertility, but I have seen less prolifs form on a scape that pods were set on, as opposed to a scape with no pods on the same plant. That being said, I think it depends on the individual cultivar.

Is anyone interested in having a proliferations option on the "Upload a photo" feature or as a "Plant trait"? I have some prolif photos, and I have been using the "stem/stalk/scape" choice for these, but a prolif is really something different, right?

I had never thought about that, but I would think maybe the "entire plant" might work for a prolif because after all it is a entirely new plant. Then maybe just put a note with it that it is a proliferation.

I have a few prolifs from different cultivars/seedlings. One issue that I am having is the ZZZ36 prolif clumps. There are at least 3 prolifs in each clump. How do I separate them? And they seem to be variable in how fast they grow roots.

This is a single prolif (that I have had in a cup with water just below the crown of the prolif. You can see the white roots forming:

A multi-fan clump on a scape:

Multi-fan in question. Very little root growth:

Becky, I would cut in between the prolifs, this would leave a thin portion of scape each. Does it makes sense?

Hi Barb, I filled the glass with water and just a squirt of H2O2 just below the bud. Will see what it does! Not that I need a new plant (this was on Spanish Glow) but just out of curiosity I had to do it!

I get proliferations regularly on the following:

Danny Steve Mitchell
Heart's Glee
Flore Pleno
Just Celebrate
Brookwood Lee Causey
Emma Tomlinson McHugh
and King Lamoni, an old fashion red, is a proliferation machine.

Good luck, Sabrina! I'll be interested to hear how it works as the root looking thing seems to be at the same level as the bud. Keep us posted!

Sabrina - Thanks for your suggestion. I am going to wait a little longer to see if those prolifs grow some roots. I fear if I slice the scape up that it will not be sturdy enough to hold the prolif's crown out of the water. That was a good suggestion though once some roots start growing.
