Lucky you, Heidi! Clue in a newbie--exactly what will you do with these proliferations?

Once they are done blooming, I will cut of the scape about an inch below the proliferation and then put it in some water to root it.

Here is a link to a method to deal with those prolifs. It was written by tink3472 (Michelle).

Good luck with all the new baby daylily's, Sabrina. I've had more this year than any other year. Of course, I've only been growing Daylily's again now for a couple years. So, I'm still but a rookie here. Whistling
Barbalee, with all those CVs you've collected this year, if yours start creating prolifs your going to need to hire a full time gardener to help out! Rolling on the floor laughing

Can we make a list here of cultivars that make prolifs or do ALL daylilies have the possibility of doing that? I honestly do not know.

Stan, I'm a rookie too, and with my anxiety I'm already thinking my potted prolifs are dead. D'Oh! I need to learn patience!!

Did your prolifs have roots showing when you potted them up?

Hmmmm .... I think it is better to try to root them right above water or barely touching water (in a cup) until they have some real roots showing. Otherwise, they may not make it. (I use the water method and get good results.)

They started developing roots while on the scape. Maybe I freaked out too early as I usually do, and potted them. I try to keep potting mix humid. One had the leaves all dry so I have to wait and see if it will survive, the other is not going bad, after some yellowing on some leaves it seems it has find its way. Too early to say. For the next (I have other two) I will follow your advice!

I had a small prolif on a seedling recently, it too had very small roots maybe a .5cm long but the scape was brown and dying back. I went ahead and cut it like suggested in the forums and inserted it in garden soil. For the first week or so it looked as if it had died. Crying however I noticed a couple days ago that it is putting up new green foliage. Patience is sometimes key...I will see if I can get a picture to share...
Good luck

Well, it sounds like yours might make it. The problem is they might get too dried out so the roots don't grow, therefore the prolif dies. Keeping it humid is good! Way to go, Sabrina and Stan! Thumbs up
