Thanks all for your input on the daylilies - I will definitely check out some of the options. Sharon, I have Daring Deception in my garden in another place - might pick one and see how it looks in front of the Ninebark Hurray! . Sharon thanks for the input on the stink horn! Crying I have had this fungus over the years and did not know what it was, how I got it, or what to do with it. I will check out the Fungus thread and deal with it when I see it now! Thank You! Thank You!

Ginny-- I never would (wood) have guessed you would have it. I thought it was a southern thing. Usually found in wood mulch. It stinks as you know, once you have smelt it you do not forget it. It stinks to attract flies they land on it and fly off with the spores. I got free city wood mulch and a whole lot more! Hilarious! With your weather you should be able to control it fairly easily. Many blessings to you!

To me both throats look green. These pictures are from this morning, I know pretty soon Jungle Beauty will be bright yellow. Will check later on Daring Deception. It is in a different bed. In the plant world green has yellow in it. Green leaves yellow. Age, heat, and sun.
May you be blessed with a wonderful day!

So after a year of bloom.. and having some time to evaluate... My regrets for this year are as follows

Emerald Tarantula (Almost the same plant as red raptor, and it didnt live up to its picture)

Fire Fountain- Nice, but pod infertile...

Gia's Wonder- Nice, but another pod infertile WPW kid...

Those are the only ones that stick out in my mind.

I try to avoid regrettable before I buy by checking out a few things first, although this will not help with new introductions.

I look for non hybridizer picture's, I want to see what the plant looks like in a real garden.
National Garden Association, Google, The Lily Auction, etc.
I have noticed a few plant pictures on the auction for seed sales that the hybridizer's picture is the only one used even several years after introduction, big red flag for me, I know that to make seeds that plant had to be in bloom so why not get a real picture?

I live in Wisconsin, so if buying a southern plant I look to see if other northern gardeners are growing and selling it.

As a seed seller I use the National Garden Association data base to check for kids, especially on the pod side, that tells me if the plant I'm interested in will set pods.

I'm bought a number of plants over the years that are not very good performers, but with all the source information available today I can minimize my losses with a little searching ahead of purchase.
Unless your buying from a small scale breeder which I support, as long as they are in the same general growing zone, do the research first, you may save a headache down the road.

My problem is that my research just leads to adding to my want list. You know, I'm checking one Daylily and, oh there is an interesting one on the same page so I'm checking two and ... wait, there on the hybredizer's page are two more weeks hat I hadn't seen before starting my research and ... what's this? right under the picture I found is another. And so it goes.

My most regrettable daylily purchase was my very first purchase. I couldn't resist. I will go along with Ed's comments about researching and finding out what others are selling in your area. I also look at the LA and find it quite interesting that the hybridizer's pictures are being used for some daylilies year after year. I avoid those like the plague. It takes a while to figure out who are reputable and who are not. I do find it tempting to buy a couple of brand new intros, but I resist the temptation. I don't have the time or space to have a big hybridizing operation, so I just do it for fun. Some of the older cultivars are still good parents.

Recently, my worst daylily purchase has been STOP AND STARE. It was not cheap at the time too.
Well, the rust loved it and the first blooms were a disaster in that they were unable to open properly. The next year it didn't bloom at all.
Now I have transplanted it and given it much love and care. I have also put an axe next to it so it gets the message that the next month or two have special significance.

The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

I am beginning to regret buying Dragonfly Dawn. Bought it in the spring of 2015 and it just won't settle in here. Still one tiny fan that you can barely see as it is almost totally brown. I guess it was just a bad time to purchase it. Last summer was a cold summer and this summer is extremely hotand hardly any rain, and it hasn't been able to adjust. Don't think it will make it through this winter as it is barely existing now. Maybe I should dig it up and put it in a pot and see what happens.

I think I would try and baby it and see if you can get it through the winter. I hope you can. Maybe next summer will be better (we can always hope). Our weather was like yours, cold and wet last summer and this summer, hot and dry. I had one daylily struggle (Face of the Stars). It didn't bloom this summer, but the foliage looks good, so I am hoping for better things next summer.

Cindy I too bought Dragonfly Dawn and put it in last fall. I got a couple of blooms this spring but the colors were very faded. I'm holding out to see what happens next year. I'm thinking another enhanced photo but we'll see Glare Glare this is how it bloomed for me

I tried a Lambertson dip last year I wanted so bad...still do Blinking . It has My Cup Overflows in it. Be it seed or plant, if something has MCO in it, if a plant, it vanishes, if seeds, few make it. I dont know if its a hard to grow plant in general, or if its just me and.or our climate. Right beside the vanishing moose and pitta, is a huge Imperial Green Pigeon, you just never know. I might have mixed up the name of the pigeon.
