Glad to see Nanny over here now too. Hopefully Hostages will make it to ATP. I will say though, I'm here but would rather be on DG. Only here because all you friendly people are. Thanks for the invite Pirl.

Hi all dahlia folks, I am not into dahlias other than enjoying the images but pirl mentioned being happy to have several former DG members here and I just wanted to say Welcome! to ATP! Hope you enjoy it here, let us know if you have any questions finding your way around and please, please, help fill in the Dahlia database with details, comments and especially photos!! Lovey dubby

Click the Pant Database on the upper left side and then click on Dahlias on the right side under the Visit our custom databases: list. From the Search and Browse box in the center, you can type in any cultivar name or access any of these options:

» Browse the full list of dahlias (or see recent additions)

» Search by characteristics (height, bloom color, etc)

» Access the generic dahlias entry

» Browse recent dahlias images

Wow - so many new additions!

Welcome All.

It seems as you all know each other already from DG.

I can't wait until dahlia season and seeing everyone's pics from their gardens. Hopefully you all stick around and like to share pics of your dahlias.

Considering you enjoy hostas, lilies and daylilies, I guess you don't suffer the plague of deer.

@hostasmore, aren't the daylily and lily forums fantastic? They even have active posters from the Southern Hemisphere, so we get to check out their lovely blooms in the middle of winter. Thumbs up

I do wish the hosta forum was more active, though.

I don't think I'll be buying any dahlias this year, but I definitely will be looking for better stakes or supports.

Deer are a minor problem.I have had good luck with scent deterrents.I live next to the Carlos Avery Game Preserve. Believe me this is deer country. My house is situated in an area where there is a fair amount of traffic even at night. The backyard is fenced and on a small hill which makes it impossible for them to jump over.I have had great luck with a product call Green Shield and last year a product I found at Lowes. Will be using that one again. Rabbits were a bigger issue but a number of ferel cats many of which have been captured and neutered/spayed by members of the neighborhood. the rabbits no longer present a problem.

@psudan. Is that dahlia --- drat - a grey moment. Begins with an L??? sounds like? Rolling on the floor laughing I don't think I have it any more. Do have Kelvin Floodlight which is humongous - maybe even bigger than - uh, begins with L..... I may wonder down to the crawl space and see who is alive and well. I keep saying I will do it then find other less strenuous and painful things to do.

Bingo! La Luna it is. And it's become one of my top 5 favorites. Not quite as big as the blooms a year ago (9-10") but with the lousy weather we had, I feel fortunate.

Well it has been a frigid 5 days here. Back up to 28 today, but it has been as cold as -13f here. With wind it has been a good time to be indoors dreaming of the upcoming dahlia season. Gardening catalogs have been arriving, they sure make good winter reading.
