Let us start keeping a list in a new thread. Maybe name it Sempervivum hardy in Texas?

I can do a little maybe. The problem is whether those I have are correctly identified or not. I've only lost one semp completely and it was a rescue from Lowe's that had been drowned. Otherwise, when they clearly don't like their location, I try to adapt and make the environment a little more friendly. I can't really protect them from the high temps, but I can limit it to some degree by locating them out of direct sun. I'll work on it and start a thread if one doesn't get started before I get around to it.

Something else to remember, in the summer when you water, water in the evening and use ice cubes to water.

This is a sad pic of Rococo and Pacific Jordan that looked great in a pot in the garden all winter but I think all the rain in April and May did them in

I am going to repot some of them and add more substance to the soil. A friend has given me a bucket of sandy loam which should help. Then I'll let them have some more vit D.

Semps have not been very successful. I lost 3 more over the summer and most look quite pathetic.
This is Pseudo funckii and Bl Karparty. If you compare it to June 28 pic, you will notice they are smaller.

I think they have a better chance in a deep container. I added a lot of sandy loam and lava sand to this container. When ever I measure moisture, it is never dry...but the semps look healthier than most of the others

Anna your sandy loam and lava sand mix looks to be the solutions. Those plants in the mix are looking good. Hurray!

Hi everyone!!! Semp lover here, too, from North Dallas area. I just started collecting semps in May this year and I have lost a lot of plants this summer as well Sad
I have my semps in a raised bed. They used to get about 4-6 hours of direct sunlight but a lot
either died from drying or rotting, so I moved them and they are now getting about 1-2 hours of early morning sun. They seem to like it. During last month's triple digit temps, I put a blanket "tent" over the semps bed and sprayed the blanket with water, kept the blanket moist all day and also misted the plants 2-3 x a day which helped cool them down.
Will be posting some pics here. Hope that we can get a lot of input from semp lovers across Texas on how to successfully grow these BEAUTIFUL babies....
