I'm in a pickle with my adult Adeniums. For quite a few days last week our temps were lows in the 50s and highs only in the 70s. Now it's heating up again and lows will be in the 70s and highs around 90. I thought maybe the cooler weather would stay around and they'd start going dormant but I guess that's not the case. So, should I go back to my regular watering schedule of about every 7 days or so? As far as fertilizing should I use the same as I do on my orchids, 1/4tsp to 1gal of RO water?

Chris, it's that time of year again...yoyo weather. You're just the opposite of me, or I'm a week behind. We're doing high 50s/low 60s at night and low to mid 70s days this week. Last week it was the same highs as you're getting. Very hard to know what to do with Adeniums and Orchids.

Chris, same has been our up and down temperature swings here. But my Adeniums are still out. I am just waiting for the rain forecast this weekend, so they can get an experience of it, before I start preparing them for their indoor growing and gradual dormancy. I don't fertilize anymore at this time. Our humidity is rather low here, so I feel I can still water my Adeniums every other day, and I still see some new growth.

I am carefully looking at our lows, so far it is still manageable, though in our long range forecast, it seems by Oct 21 that is the time we will be getting in the high 40F's for overnight, so I should make sure before that comes, my Adeniums are indoors already.

Fall is often a tricky time so monitor closely your overnight lows and humidity levels. But I will suggest you start thinking about bringing them in or protecting them further, reducing water more before end of October.

I brought all of mine inside the solarium last week. We had lows (and continue to have lows) in the 50's, and a couple of mornings were near 50F. Since my plants are still getting gobs of bright light, I still am watering on the same schedule but I'm not fertilizing.

Mine are all still out, lows haven't really been past 70 so far. Same water schedule, already stopped fertilizing. Those temps are tricky. I'll be in the same "yo-yo boat" in a few more weeks.

Thanks Carol, Tarev, Ken and James. We're supposed to get some rain Thursday so I'll wait and see what happens before I water them. I've also already quit fertilizing so I'll just have to see what happens.

My baby Adeniums are going on 3months now. They seem to be doing pretty good, at least I hope they are. I've seen no more 'inch worms' on any of them after I sprayed with Neem Oil.

AArgh, I've got some kind of black substance on the leaves of my big Adeniums. Not sure what it is but I guess I could use Bayer 3-N-1 on it tomorrow after the rain stops.

Hi Chris and others,
Your reference to bayer 3 n 1 caught my eye. I have used it for mealy bugs on a lot of my succulents and find it very effective. But I have no idea how much is enough to be effective. I use about 1-2 tablespoons per gallon just as a guess.
How much do you use?
I need to get more active on this site. I was an avid DG site participant but its not at all what it use to be so I rarely go. Is there a thread on other succulents here I haven't found yet?
Thanks, Helen

Helen,
There is a Cactus & Tender Succulents forum here, but would hate to send you away. Your input and experiences would be enjoyed here as well.

Cannot speak for Bayer Products, but hear much about them.

Nice one Helen, I have similar Red Adenium. I'm on cactus and succulents too but I agree with Rick, we'd love to see you here. I only have 4 no ID adeniums.

This one blooms constantly.

Helen, the 3-N-1 I use is in the sprayer you attach to the hose. I went with Neem oil as I didn't want to blast off all the bud I have on them. I've been keeping an eye on it and it seems to be going away but I may give them another treatment in a few days.

Those of us on the orchids use the Bayer 3-in-1 with good results, BUT like any product, the pests evolve fast and will build up resistance, so many of us are changing up what we use, to slow down the process.

Been rainy here..the nearest thing to tropical conditions we can get. Keeping my two Adeniums outdoors still. Letting it relish the moisture and humidity. I initially planned to move them in by Oct 21, but just going to let them there to this Friday. It is still actually making new leaves and holding the older ones, so it is not ready to sleep yet.

I do see our overnights will go lower to mid 40's, which often happens, we get rains in the valley and snow in the higher elevations two hours to our north, so we get the chill.

Mine are still blooming Tarev. One is slowly losing a few leaves and the other two are full of buds. I quit watering about 2wks ago but I'm thinking maybe I need to water them again as it looks like we don't have any cool weather anytime soon. I traded some Selenicereus cuttings today for a couple of Adeniums at a local nursery.

Oh nice you still have blooms Chris!
I only get my blooms here at the height of summer..June to August, after that just leaf growing and caudex building till it shows me signs of slowing down to its usual winter dormancy.

Its spot for winter rest indoors is ready, so will just let the water drain today from the containers, and these two will hide. Finally our overcast skies has lifted a bit, but there is still a gentle drizzle.
