Chris, I would not water the up-potted adeniums again. Allow the soil to dry completely and stay dry for a few weeks. This is in case any nicks or cuts were sustained in the process of un-potting/up-potting...they need time to callous as well as to grow more feeder roots. They will do just fine since they have the under-ground caudex to live on in the meantime.

Your babies are looking super! Thumbs up

Chris,
The one plant that you have repotted with the "Y" close to soil level. Looks to be quite a bit lower in the soil than previous photo. I would remove a bit to have at same level as before. Not good to bury deeper.

Good morning Kadie, thanks for that information. I'm just not sure what to do about the other three adults. One has most all the leaves turning yellow and has dropped quite a few so I'll assume that it's going dormant. The other two, one is blooming again and has several buds about ready to open and has no leaves yellowing yet. The other has a few small buds but no yellow leaves at all. It's been about 2 weeks since I watered them. Looking at the extended forecast I don't see any really cold temps until mid Nov. but I hopefully hope to have most everything stored in the greenhouses before then. I guess since we're supposed to be getting some rain over the next several days I should just go ahead and put them all away for the winter just to be on the safe side.

Chris, I really cannot help you with winter dormancy issues. During the winter months our mean low temperature is 76 F, and night temperatures rarely dip below 70 F; the mean high temperature is 86 F. My adeniums thrive and are at their best in these temperatures.

But I can say this...individual plants react differently. You had withheld water from your mature adeniums but only one got the "message" so far and the leaves turned yellow and are dropping in preparation for dormancy? I would water the two that are still blooming...they need it.

What I usually do Chris, if the plant shows it is still forming new leaves, then I continue watering, but not at the rate I do it in summer, where I water almost everyday. I scale down, maybe one thorough watering once a week, and making sure that water drains out properly.

But if it is already visibly dropping leaves, I start to leave it alone, and let it go into its dormant phase. Consider too the color of the trunk, I find if it is still very young and green, it needs a bit more watering, but if it has managed to make its trunk a harder bark cover during summer, it is already able to stash whatever it needs during dormancy time.

Thanks Kadie and Tarev, here's photos of the three. The first is the one that leaves have yellowed and is dropping them, 2nd the one that's blooming and 3rd one that has dropped some leaves but also has small buds on it. I watered the blooming one and the 3rd one then moved them into one of the greenhouses for their winter stay.

They look okay Chris, just ready to sleep for the ones going dormant. Sometimes I think as they grow older, they want to sleep earlier than the younger ones. Big Grin No pun intended Hilarious!

Here is a seedling of what came to me as Adenium socotranum. I noticed that socotranum is a subspecies of A. obesum in the plant database.

It has a pleasing belly and is only a week old.

Thanks, Tarev. It emerged with the curved belly and I am trying to use phototaxis to straighten it.

It straightened out nicely. It is cute, getting a nice reddish brownish color to its belly.

All my obsum had quit blooming, and pretty much quit about a month ago. Now one is loaded with buds and the first flower opened last night. They are all in the solarium and seem to like that environment.

Mine had all stopped about a month ago as well--dropped their final blooms. One of them (purple butterfly) quit blooming quite a while ago, and now all of a sudden, it has buds all over. Confused

It's not a wonderful picture--I'll have to take more after work or tomorrow. The big one should be opening soon.

More sun and warmth! Woohoo!

I have read some varieties often drop their leaves and then bloom in winter. Mine never does that, always sleep in winter and bloom in the hottest time of the year in late June to August.
