@Ursula would be disappointed in me if I lost all the plants. She was kind enough to gift me the seeds. At the same time, I think she would want me to experiment some. That's one way I learn about new plants and it is also fun to see the results. Hurray! I think that my soul is that of a scientist, always asking, always experimenting.

This is my greenhouse. When the sun does shine it get's sun. The are polycarbonate. So it will not get full sun. It is a bit protected. I did take that because it will give a bit protection in winter from frost. So that I do not have to put my heater to high.

@Adeniumgirl
Willeke, I moved your post from another thread and will continue our discussion here.

You had said in the beginning of our discussion, the location of the greenhouse faces south/southeast. In your hemisphere of the world, that location appears to be very good. Your adeniums will get a lot of sunlight...it is not north facing where you will get mostly shade.

I looked up general climate info for Netherlands (don't know what city you're in) and found that during summer the warmest it gets there is 71F (21.7 C). During your summer I do not believe you need the greenhouse for your adeniums. That wall facing south/southeast will absorb heat throughout the day and will radiate warmth at night; it will also reflect some sunlight so light will be more intense in that spot during the day.

The problem is that if I do not put them in the greenhouse that they also get a lot of rain. Here in Holland it can also rain a lot. I am close to the coast. So we do get the most sun here. That is good, but also a lot of wind, and rain when bad weather. I do not dare to put them outside here. The good thing is that I have a automatic window opener wich does open when the sun is shining. I can also keep the door open when warm.

Ahah! The precipitation there in Holland...lots of rain anytime during the year. This is certainly a consideration when growing in pots outside.

Yes it is. That is why I place them in my greenhouse as soon as it is possible. At least they stay dry there, and also sun when it is shining.

I know it's getting to be your bed-time and I need to get a few of my adeniums loaded into pickup for the flea market. So nite-nite, Willeke, talk to you later. Smiling

Willeke,
You will find it much "safer" if you want to call it that, to keep them inside the greenhouse.
You have a door that can stay open allowing air flow for both circulation and reducing heat if it should get too hot inside it. This should not be the case.
If you do not have a large number and can put them out on a bench of sorts outside of greenhouse if you will be there to move in out of rain. This is what I do with some of mine.

I prefer to manage any water my trees get, whether it straight water or fertilizer mix. This way I do not miss any watering with fertilizer during growing season. I mist my trees on hot days in the A.M., then the water has evaporated before days hot sun is upon them.
The misting helps to also create a less desirable environment for mites.

I have juice jugs painted shiny black. Fill them with water and let the days hot sun heat them. This helps to keep night temps. higher. Works like a charm.
Your brick wall behind greenhouse will definitely help with added warmth at night.

It was a gorgeous morning and there were lots of people at the outdoor flea market. I sold a dozen adeniums this morning so now I have more room to grow some more, and money to feed my adenium addiction. Whistling nodding

Yes Rick.. I will keep them inside.i find that much better. Than I can control watering, and I can put everything open for fresh air. It is nicer to be able to control watering and fertilizing.
When very hot I will mist them. I do have benches. So I have good space for them. When at home I can always put some outside.

@Rainbow. Good for you that you did sell some plants. Very nice. Now you have new space and money to buy new plants or stuff for your plants.

The trees I took to the flea market were in bloom. I was a little concerned that the trees that had outgrown their 8" panterra bowls and were distorting them would not be attractive. But guess what? The customers were itching to transplant them into new larger containers. Hilarious! And they liked the ones that had a tapered tree-form to the caudex with their multiple branches.

Well I can not blame them that they did like the trees. You do have some nice trees. I guess they where all colors or trees that you did not like or had double? Well now they are happy and you are. New space and some money on top of it.
I guess When Mine do grow up I Will have doubles or colors I do not like. So hopefully i can sell some as well. Glare

I keep those trees that have blooms that are especially beautiful to my eyes. And those that have an exceptionally large caudex. The rest go to market.

Many people here are familiar with the desert rose, but it's those that were cloned from cuttings. When they ask whether my plants are desert roses I say yes, that's the common name, the botanical name is Adenium obesum. I like telling people about them and teaching about their care. Big Grin

I think it is nice to tell people about the plants and How they should care for them. They must like your trees much better than the cuttings ofcourse. If Only for the impressive caudex. No wonder they sell that Good.

Great on selling some of your trees, KD! I'm sure they will all go quickly when they have blooms on them. I wish I could be there to buy them! Sighing!
