I see, for future grafting practices. If you had extra or unlimited root stock trees. You could take the pruned branches and cut it into scions and get quite a few pieces for a number of new trees?
I do not have a large number of trees that I can or am willing to cut up for root stock.

That is great that you where able to pass along some help. Your trees are definitely very healthy from past photo's in comparison to some of the trees that have been in photo's of the markets that you have attended. This would be a good thing for you, if taking trees. You will make a name for yourself and people will seek you out.

Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious! Thanks, Rick, for the tips!

At the flea market, a customer asked if I had fertilizer to sell (which I don't), That got me thinking...sell CRF in little ziploks...sell my special pre-mixed potting media for up-potting their newly purchased from me adeniums...sell pots...hmmm?

I do all that, KD, but for tropical plants other than adenium. You certainly can too.

I think that selling some Adeniums as well as soil, pots and information, is a fantastic way to go. You in time, could start giving classes on pruning, grafting, cuttings and over all care of the Adeniums.
Take in some of your trees that are in bloom and sell prospective grafted trees. They order w a small stipend to secure that both parties are committed.
I would love to do this kind of thing if it where in demand here.

Years ago when I went to the president of the C&S Society's place. He had a huge selection of Adeniums and wanted to reduce by a few. Of course, I had to get some.
Anyhow, my direction with this. We sat down and started chatting for quite some time. He said to me prior to leaving that it was so wonderful to be able to sit and talk with someone with a passion for these plants (Cactus and Succulents) and be able to share information and just healthy communication.
It was a marvelous time and I am going back this spring.

What a great project and good times to be had, KD.

Adeniumgirl said:My Sundaram trees are doing fine. 2 are starting to leaf out. The third not yet. One of the 2 that is starting to leaf out is not getting leaves on all branches. Is there something I can do to help it. Is it normal that they are not all as fast?

@Adeniumgirl
Willeke, pray tell, what variety of adenium did you get from Sundaram? Please post pictures if you can.

It rained some more yesterday afternoon. I hand-watered the plants and seedling transplants that are in the covered patio. My largest flowered adenium, "White Cloud" has lots of big dark green leaves and more buds growing so am having to water it every other day. I have it growing in half gritty mix and potting mix so the media also dries out faster. It is also under protection of patio cover. It's truly amazing about "White Cloud"...when she's thirsty her flowers wilt, but within a short time after watering her flowers perk up again.

Quick Adenium question about soil/medium. I need to repot my plant, and I happen to have a surplus of the ready mixed Cactus, Palm, and Citrus soil that you can get at most garden centers. It is extremely fast draining and I thought it would be perfect for a warm/hot area such as mine, but do you think it would be too acidic for the Adenium?

I use those, and I even add more pumice in it, by summer, my plant gets very thirsty and loves being watered often and draining fast at the same time.

Thank You! @tarev It gets very dry here so I water often in the spring and summer, so I keep all of my tropicals in extremely well draining soil. I haven't had my Adenium for very long and admittedly haven't done too much research on them yet. I can tell you that I love it though. I can't wait for the caudex to get bigger and "showy".

Yes, I do the same too James, we also get extremely dry here too, like 6 to 7 months no rain, but this plant thrives and enjoys the heat and direct sun nicely. I just don't get the blooms anymore when it starts hitting upper 90's. I get the blooms in late Spring to early summer. It loves a good watering in summer, I guess it compensates for our extremely dry and low humidity area.

My adeniums are still hiding indoors though. I am waiting for overnights to be stable 50F and higher before I bring them out slowly. So it is still by my south facing window.

We're almost there on the Gulf Coast. We've been staying in the upper 50s and low 60s overnight for days to weeks at a time, but then we'll get that occasional cold blast that takes us down into the upper 40s (like the one that showed up yesterday). Mine has been outside in my greenhouse with my tropicals all winter. The only things I brought inside for winter were my newer cuttings (to be kept above 60 consistently) and my coral cactus which despises anything below 60. I typically keep my greenhouse at a cozy 55, but there were a few nights that it actually got into the 30s here *hides from cold*, and my greenhouse struggled to stay around 49 overnights. Luckily it only lasted a few days.

@jmkdml
Hi James! Welcome! to ATP!

We would love to see pictures of your adenium. Is it grafted? How old is it? Has it flowered yet? Inquiring minds want to know! Hilarious! Hilarious!
Tarev gave good advice about the media. Yes, well-aerated media is best for growing adeniums.
I live in the tropics and have my own preferred mix based on what is available.

Happy gardening! Thumbs up

I rescued it from a friend of a friend, it's not grafted, and I have no idea how old it is. The soil it's in is definitely not well draining or aerated. It seems to be very hard and compact. I wanted to wait until spring to repot it. It does have perlite in it, but it appears to mainly be at the top, and the rest of the dirt seems to just be regular yard dirt. These pictures are from when I first received it. It's currently growing new leaves for spring after losing most of them over winter.

James, please show us some pictures that are recent, and in one of them, stir up the soil a couple of inches deep so that we can actually see what the potting soil looks like. From what I can tell, the media looks pretty well-draining, but that's just what I see on the surface. I am a newbie to adenium growing, but the pot sure looks substantial for size plant. But like Goldie Locks, I don't know whether these pots need to be over-generous, under-generous, or "just-right" for the size plant. Others will know this.

Hi James, to me the media looks okay, though I do see the caudex got those brown dried out marks, seems to have been overwatered before. Looks healed though.

So if it is already growing new leaves, then the plant is awake already, even now you can start repotting if you want. Just expect some buds/blooms may blast, just its reaction to roots being disturbed, but it will make more as temps continue to warm up. It will be a good chance to inspect the condition of the roots/caudex below. You can lift it up a bit during repot to expose some of its beautiful caudex below soil line.

Take photos of the roots when you unpot.
