Here is my "for fun" entry ... Vic and I do not enter to win though.

It's woven entirely of ribbons, scraps of paper, torn gift wrap and other things a bird might find in our gardens. The photo doesn't show the depth of the interior next but the eggs won't fall out. BE sure to enlarge it.

I have a new respect for birds and their ability to build a nest without fingers!! Big Grin

Buttercup may visit this guest nest anytime she wants to. Lovey dubby

Go ahead and start posting your nests and Nancy will judge them and announce the winner on Monday morning!

Oh Becky - yours is PERFECT! I love it. Here's mine and Nancy, mine's just for fun too!

and yes, it's a real nest. It was left in our camellia bush and cardinals hatched in it. The perimeter was shredding a bit so I trimmed it and after reading all your advice I did in fact spray with hair spray. The eggs are stones, of course.

I agree TOTALLY! How DO they do it? Blinking And how did you ever get all that ribbon, etc. wound through yours? I had such a hard time with just a few strands of yarn, yours is awesome! Thumbs up

And another Thumbs up for yours Vic! Love the "real" stones. Lovey dubby

I don't have a picture of mine yet but I'll be posting before the day's out!

Oh my goodness, I'm loving it!

Becky: Your nest is very chic ... so pretty! I thought about trying to find some fabric that I could cut or tear into strips for weaving through my nest but figured it would take too long and knowing me I'd never get it done.

Vic: Great job, your embellishments enhanced it and made it your own .... and a wonderful choice of those "rock eggs", they sure look authentic!

Tee: Wonderful job ... that is so creative! I love that you incorporated the shells, especially the one used for the nest which is really pretty! The little sign just makes me smile!

The inspiration for my nest was a Carolina Wren nest that I cleared from one of the backyard birdhouses in April after the babies fledged. Wrens use twigs, sticks, bits of plastic, fabric, feathers and even snake skin to construct their nests. I was trying to figure out what I could use for my nest and had recently mounted a few orchids on wood, so I grabbed a handful of coco fiber, formed it into a nest shape and added a few twigs, scraps of plastic etc. and glued in a few marbles for the eggs.

My inspiration - A Carolina Wren Nest: ---- My creation:

I think it took me longer to get photos than it did to make the nest! Darn camera... Grumbling

This has been so much fun and just look at how creative we are! Thumbs up Hurray!

I'm hoping Buttercup will come to live here and I want her know that she'll have friends to keep her company. We always collect any fallen bird nests from the garden and have them displayed in our front entry. I've been fortunate to find a few "eggs" at gem shows I've been to and the nests are no longer empty!

So just for you Buttercup Lovey dubby .....I chose a branch from our Harry Lauder shrub and wove a basket of wire and raffia. It still didn't have any personality so I used other materials I had on hand. Sheet moss, reindeer moss, feathers we've collected and yarn from the sweater I'm making for my grandson were all used to soften your roost. However, the eggs I made from some leftover QuikWall might not leave you enough room so if you decide to perch on the branch I'll make sure the 'snake' doesn't get you! Blinking

We collect a lot of "stuff" and I even found some seeds so you won't go hungry! Hilarious!

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!

Charleen: I fell in love with your Cardinal when you posted an earlier photo ... and the nest is so colorful, really adorable!

Doris: I love your Spanish Moss Nest! We have lots of moss down here and I'm going to collect some from one of the trees and make a nest from it ... thank you for the idea!

Debbie: What can I say ... you are one very talented lady, your creations and displays are amazing! I especially like the second one with the Egret ... oh, I just love all of those nests!!

Becky: Yes, this was so much fun! Little "Buttercup" the Goldfinch will have a great new home wherever he/she lands! I'm heading out of town until next Sunday and won't have internet service at our friends vacation place so I won't be able to see everyone's else's nests until I return. I look forward to more Garden Art projects!

Have a great week everyone!

Dear Darling Little Buttercup,

When you come to live with me you will have a roof over your head, no rain, snow, sleet or hail for you. You will be all comfy cozy warm in your birdhouse, complete with perch and a soft sweet pillow nest of ribbon and strings to cuddle you and your egg babies. Inside or outside, wherever you choose, you will love your little house

Hey Nap, I'm not in the contest, but I had all this cardboard and I found scraps of brown paper and I had this moss, see, and I had a ton of birch bark just peeling off the river birch tree and well, I just couldn't resist since I already had a bowling ball mess all over the place. But I'm not in the contest. OK?? But there really is a nest down inside the birdhouse.
