Container Gardener Herbs Plant and/or Seed Trader Vegetable Grower Enjoys or suffers cold winters
My husband didn't want me to plant the 3 top hottest peppers, since I just got the seed, but some is old so I have to plant them to save more seed. HaHa I told him I'm not eating them!! Also I want to start the winter sowing but I have to find containers. If it's smaller than a milk jug will that work? I have some recycled tubs from Tokyo Joe's and Mad Greens to use. I want to plant some seeds sooooooo bad, I just switched to a mostly vegetarian diet and need some good food.

Cheryl, if you're going to grow the peppers anyway, you could look into making an organic anti-pest spray with it. For me, the peppers arrive too late to use that way, but if yours are early enough, use them as an ingredient with water and soap to deter bugs.

Cheryl yes you can use those containers for ws'ing. I use coke bottles, milk jugs, anything that the sun can get through. No dark bottles. They tend to create problems. When I run out of those things by march, I will ws in the flats with saran wrap and popsicle sticks. I have a child's swimming pool that blew in our yard. If needed, I'll use that as well.

About the hot peppers... my hubby loves them! I traded for chocolate bhut jalokia a couple of weeks ago. Planting. I can't take anything hotter than a Serrano but for some reason I love growing and canning them. I think I have 8 or 10 different peppers to plant this year. Your cayenne, Thai and a couple more I got from you are in that list. My son and hubby eat peppers on everything so I chop and freeze, pickle, and make hot sauce. No pepper is wasted, lol. I plant at least 70 pepper plants every year.

I will also plant things just for seeds and sharing. Last year my pitiful flower gardens were nothing more than seed banks. My hubby and neighbors thought I was crazy but those few plants that survived the rain and eventually went to seed gave me my start in swapping. Not alot, but it was a start. I've been sent things that I don't care for and there is only a couple of seeds. I suppose I just think who knows? I may just fall in love with it. If not, seed swapping here I come, lol.

I have a spinach seedling popping up under my grow lights. The seeds are from 2001. Its come up before my newer seed! My Bok Choy, toy Choy is from 2013 and it always germinates. I've got 2 delphinium seedlings from seed I saved in either 2013 or 2014. Not great germination rates but I never plant more than 5-6 seeds anyway. Don't have space for more than 2-3 plants of each variety!

Hey ya'll! The germination looks like it's going great! Since the swap I have been so busy getting garden beds ready and winter sowing. I'm really past the point of winter sowing now. But I still sow since I need everything to germinate time wise. So far I've had alot germinate already. My tomatos, broccoli, lettuces, coneflowers, salvia, snaps and a few others are just beaming at me. Lol.

I think we've had our last cool day today for the month. Maybe a couple more in March. We're mostly staying in the 60s to 70s. I hope everyone else's gardens and sowing are going well. I'm so excited to see how everything comes out. Hubby keeps telling me, you know you can't plant out yet. Lol, I don't care. I've always loved watching my plants grow. Ya'll tell us how it is going. I miss yakking with everyone.

Seeds floating don't mean squat. Really. But I have placed a light weight on them to keep them under water so they hydrate. Works.

David LMO Not very much info ever said that it can sometimes take a rather lengthy amount of time for seeds to hydrate . Some should of said , that very often floating seeds will not Hydrate or cell activate properly Shrug! I agree

Chlorophyll , According to the old manual , will cause cell activation along with Hydration , That being the purpose of either , Anyway , As I got less and less for why ever at starting seeds , This puts me back into results in my favor , Came from Centennial store booklets in the 1960's I should of said ,here , .
Anyway , with really wants or a few rare seeds ,, the help from whatever works is Great ,, Hurray!

HI DnD , same question , Gemstones , Marbles , Decorative rocks ,, I have seen it done that way , I tip my hat to you.

Well I got a couple more things sowed today. Checking on things even more has started germinating. I expect everything by next week though to be germinated. We get into the 70s weather wise. Winter is done, lol. It has been exciting though. We managed to get corn planted last weekend. It took one of my flower beds away but it'll be worth it come dinnertime. We also had a nice steady rain yesterday. I'm so ready for this year.
