Beautiful flowers! I have old peduncles on my carnosa start I rooted in august. The plants sure have grown and starting to vine off each node. The peduncles are fuzzy right now but no buds growing yet. It'll be interesting to see when they decide to bloom.

So I went to a garden store this weekend and found these 4 Hoyas. I didn't buy any but was wondering if anybody could ID them for me.

Thank you. I'm thinking of getting the first one. Just to clarify, pubicalyx pink silver and pubicalyx splash are different right??? The reason I ask is because I have pubicalyx pink silver and the foliage does not look like the first one. It doesn't have as much "splash" pattern on the foliage and the leaves aren't as skinny and long. So as long as they're different, and the price isn't too much, I'm thinking of getting the first one. And hopefully it won't get too stressed from being repotted in a smaller pot with different soil. They definitely look over-potted too soon.

Lizzie I haven't grown the regular Pink Silver, but I believe it has a lighter bloom and not so much of the splash on the leaves. My Splash leaves will actually get so much silver splashing on them at times that they are more splashed than green. The splashing will actually take on a pinkish hue when grown in a little more light. The one I just posted on the Facebook page is Splash.

Here's a comparison of my H.pubicalyx 'Splash' leaves when grown in less light ( left) and more light (right)

Awesome! Thank you for the info! I think I'm going to go ahead and get that first one and repot it and see how it does as long as they're not charging too much. I saw a hanging basket there too and I couldn't tell if it was a lipstick plant or Hoya.

I think you *may* have a fishtail in there? I'm not a hoya expert, but I do have a fishtail hoya whose leaves look a lot like the solid, dark green, elongated leaves in your picture.

Has anybody used osmocote plus in their Hoyas soil mix? What was your experience? How did your plants like it?

I recently fell in love with and purchased a shooting star hoya. At first it seemed to be doing ok even after initial repot. I chose to repot it again adding some orchid mix to the soil to lighten it up a bit and now it's doing a bud blast. Not sure if it's the repot or possibly the ceiling fan causing the stress. Any advice would be helpful.

Hello amylitas, I grow my Hoya shooting star in standing water. Like my container had drain holes, but I let it sit in the collection tray with water, always with water. That is the only way I can make it survive in our very dry area. It is by my west facing window, but gets protected from the hot sun by the sheer curtains. I also run our ceiling fans, to help cool it down.

I have seen this plant in the wild, growing in a foggy, cool area, So it likes that cool growing humid condition.

My plant will also blast the buds if it feels way too warm, so I keep it well shaded. So as a summary, it likes cool shady conditions with good airflow, grown and kept on the moist side to meet its very high humidity needs.

@amylitas Your profile doesn't show where you are from. A good bit depends on your location. Here in Central Fl. I couldn't grow it the same way tarev does or it would rot. Very warm humid here, so I have it in a well draining mix, kept moist but sitting on a mesh tray that allows free drainage. Bright indirect light ( under shadecloth , outside) Blooms on and off almost all year round. H. multiflora will often abort buds after a repot or allowed to get to dry. Not sure about the ceiling fan. I have some in the greenhouse, which can get up to 95-98ยบ with an exhaust fan, but that doesn't blow directly on the plants. These smaller plants are all budding up right now also.

So your maybe a little cooler and dryer there ? You may need to help with the humidity. I'd try misting it daily, or setting it on a humidity tray, and maybe move to where the ceiling fan is not blowing directly on it. But don't be too alarmed by it dropping buds right after a repot. And let it get a bit root bound. Big mistake many new to Hoya's make is overpotting them. Some of mine are beasts and they are still in 6 in. pots.

I agree my Hoya shooting star is still in the same container when I got it. I just put it inside another container also with drain holes to help support the plant, but still sitting in water.

It seems to like similar cool shady conditions of a Phal orchid, the only difference, Phal orchids likes its thick roots to go really dry in between waterings, while Hoya shooting star prefers to be always on the moist side. But lighting and temperature-wise, it likes similar growing conditions. That is why these two are growing on the same area in our house, getting the edge of the airflow from our ceiling fan as needed.

Which side of San Diego, if you are by the coastal side, it may do good still in a shady side outdoors, since coastal area gets marine layer coolness, but if you are on the inland side similar to my area, you would need to protect it from excessive dry heat and better grown indoors.

Amylistas, this is how my Hoya shooting star looks right now indoors:
Sheer curtains are drawn close to keep it cool:

have not repotted it since I got it, I just threw those excess clay rocks from my other orchid repot as top dressing, old black container it came in is still in there in use. Media is always kept moist.

Thank you both for your help. It only gets the edge of the ceiling fan on low which I have on for my phals. I'm close to coast in Mission Hills area. When I repotted I only went up an inch (not realizing it like a to be root bound), not going to disturb it anymore by downsizing so will just let it do it's thing. It does have some new leaf growth so I'll just be patient with it. Did put it on an humidity tray also.
