I knew that my Hoya 'DS70' was blooming but I haven't really thought much about it because it's not a favorite of mine although I do like the fragrance! I took the puppy out back a few minutes ago ... the aroma hits you as soon as you open the door. It's dark out so I had to use the flash.

Looks great Lin ! It's one I like alot since it never seems to complain about anything ! This time of year is when it seems to bloom the most.

mj, It is a Hoya that seems to be very easy going and just does it's own thing without much help from me!

Lin, your "DS70" is beautiful!!! And yes, your spelling correction from earlier is correct. I meant H. Mindorensis 'True Red'.

My starts from MJSPonies are growing great now. I've also found a H. Hindu rope and H. Tri-color Crimson queen in store for a good price. I'm still wanting to get more types but I've recently had foot surgery and I'm ordered to bed rest with foot elevated above my heart for 4 more weeks.

When is the last time frame in the year you all suggest holding off on shipping/receiving starts in the mail?

OK, I'm new to this thread. I was given a housewarming plant in 1982 that I was told was a "Waxy Hoya". No label. It thrives to this day hanging over my kitchen sink.

I have very occasionally given it a slight dose of diluted fertilizer in Spring. It is in the original soil.

Wow, that potting mix is older than me and that Hoya doesn't seem to notice! Hilarious!

That's a 'Krimson Queen' Hoya and a beautiful one at that! Lovey dubby

I just noticed on my little tri-color "Crimson Queen" plant I bought at a nursery, some of the white leaves are dying. They're turning brown at the tip and the brown is spreading to the base of the leaf towards the stem. 2 leaves are effected so far and the brown is reaching about halfway. I have not watered the plant recently because the soil hasn't dried out yet. It holds moisture longer than the soil mix I have planted mine in so I'm thinking I need to re-pot it. I'm out of town right now and can't get a pic of it till Tuesday the earliest. But in the mean time, are there any deficiencies that would cause this? Should I fertilize with something in particular? When I have watered it so far, I've added SuperThrive to the water. I also have HB101, Schmidt all purpose liquid fertilizer and 20-20-20 powder fertilizer but I have not used these yet.

If they're all white, that is normal IMO. I'd occasionally lose white leaves here and here on mine.

When you get home tip the plant out of the pot and look at the roots. The carnosa's like to dry out well in between watering. You may want to add some chunky perlite to the mix. But as Ham said above, white leaves do sometimes shed. But it should only be occassionaly and they shouldnt "wrinkle" or get mushy.

So for the carnosa tri-color, I pulled it out and looked at the roots. The roots seem dry, and the soil is drying out. They don't seem rotten and the roots cover the outside of the soil. I'm thinking its root bound and ready to be transplanted. All the green leaves are in good shape. The 2 white leaves I was talking about already fell off but there are 2 more white leaves browning. They turn paper thin then fall off.

I also have another issue. The H. Mindorensis "True Red" I bought from you MJSPonies, was doing great and has a long stem of new growth. However, when I was gone out of town for 3 days my cat knocked it over and it fell out of the pot with the roots exposed right over the vent in the floor. As soon as I found it I potted it back in as much of the same soil I could salvage and in some new Hoya mix soil I have and I watered it as it was dry and let it be. I've noticed the 2 new leaves on the new stem growth have turned kinda droopy and soft. I hope I don't lose it 😞

I have similar CAT issues Grumbling but they live here so I deal with it. You may loose those two leaves but the plant should be fine. I had a Hoya get lost in shipping and spent two weeks bare root, it looked bad when I unboxed it. It recovered very quickly and I lost three or four leaves. In six weeks it has lots of new growth and looks great.

LizzieBeth, I will summon @mjsponies but it may be awhile before she can check in ... Hurricane Matthew is up in her area of Florida right now. They may very well lose power and it could be awhile before she's able to get back online. I'm sure once she sees this she will pop in with advice regarding your plant.

I was going to say the same thing that she may be out of touch for a while. I spoke Via text yesterday (I think)..... everything's been so crazy here. I'm just outside of Charleston, SC and Matthew is just beginning to hit us now. I know she doesn't have a cell phone because I was teasing her and told her it was time to give up that flip phone. Anyway I'm sure she will be on as soon as she can.
