Thank you. Hoyas are not common in my area at all. My LFS/garden store/nursery mostly has lipstick plants, but no Hoyas. So I'm thinking that I will have to buy cuttings and have them shipped to me to build my collection. Does anybody have a list of the most fragrant Hoyas? I know Hoya carnosa is very fragrant and I fell in love with the scent. But I've never had any other Hoyas.

Welcome LizzieBeth. If you are looking for fragrant hoya variety Gardenio's Nursery in Florida sells a lot of those.

I looked them up and the only nursery I could find with a matching name only sells gardenias online. No Hoyas.

for their hoyas: http://www.rareflora.com/hangi...

I purchased a couple of hoyas from them last year. I'm not an expert at growing hoya, but the two I bought from them are hanging on and doing well enough. Both of the hoya I purchased from them were the kerri type with the large, heart-shaped leaves. I am a little concerned that the plants I got from them brought white flies with them because I have never had white fly issues before and then one of my plants from them (jasmine) was affected, so I threw it out. Soon after, two of my other houseplants started showing signs. I would purchase from them again, but now I know to keep insecticidal soap handy.

Not to steer you clear of Gardino's because, as I said, I *would* purchase from them again and I think they have a fantastic selection. Just as an addition to the list of suggestions, though, for where to purchase hoya, you may want to try SRQHoya. Especially if you're looking for cuttings. I purchased a 6-pack of cuttings from her and they are nearly all putting on new leaves this year and doing well. Here's the website: https://srqhoyas.com/

Here is the hoya variety pack that I purchased: https://srqhoyas.com/index.php...

I'm not sure what she means that it's time to "dim the lights" on SRQ Hoya...I'm not sure if that means just this year or if she's planning on discontinuing selling altogether in the near future, so if you want some from her, I would encourage you to get them soon!

I think you're right that the flies came from them. I just took a look at their website. Good find. But they did say all their plants are grown outside and they can't guarantee plants with no blemishes. I'm sure if they're grown outside then they came with bugs.

You've provided so much helpful info. Thank you so much. I am more interested in cuttings since I can get more for my money so I'll check out the other supplier as well. And for anyone interested, I googled and may have answered my own question. I found a list of most fragrant Hoyas ☺️🌸. Here you go:

Cagayanenis, citrina, onychoides, carnosa, australis, wightii, pottsii, verticillata, obscura, cumingiana, thomsonii, cembra, cv. Iris Marie. magnifica, heuschkelianas, rigidas, obovata, pubicalyxs, lacunosas, sulawessi and others.

That's a good list. Did you get it from SRQ Hoya's page? (She has a list of all of her most fragrant hoyas...I think it's on the FAQ page, if I remember correctly.)

No I didn't get that list from SRQ's page but I'll go look at her list now too. Sadly I can not order from SRQ and can only add plants to the wish list. She mentioned where she said "it was time to dim the lights" that if there's anything you like, add it to the wish list and she'll contact you if/when she has it available.

But I am also looking at all these prices and wondering if it's normal for prices to be so high on Hoyas. I know I was spoiled being able to get 3 cuttings for free of my Hoya carnosa but on SRQ's page, $14-$16 for 1 stem cutting? Is that normal or high?

It might be a little high, but that's why I ordered her cutting 6-pack. When I ordered, she allowed me to make requests. Since there were so many I wanted, I sent her a list of probably 15 that I liked and all of the cuttings she sent me were off of that list. I can't promise she would still do the same for orders this year if she's running out of stock, but it's worth a try. At the bundle price, I felt like it was a mostly good deal.

The other thing I might suggest since we're not too far from the end of the season is to keep an eye on stores like Wal-Mart, Lowe's, and Home Depot. Last year I snagged two large hoya plants at a very good price. One was a fishtail hoya and the other was a Crimson Queen, I think we determined? I'd have to double-check. Either way, I only spent about $5 per plant because they were on the clearance rack.

Yes I was planing on checking out stores around here soon but last I checked there were no Hoyas. But if I found some, I wouldn't mind paying a little more for a large plant.

Since I'm new here, are people allowed to sell plants here? I've seen people work out trades but is anyone here selling Hoya cuttings?

I purchased African Violets from the Violet Barn https://www.violetbarn.com/car... a number of years ago and they always offered small, healthy starter plants in 2 1/2 inch pots but at very reasonable prices!

It looks like they have a nice selection of Hoyas to choose from too; they list them as vining type and cascading type but both would work in pots with trellises or in hanging baskets.
