Mine are just barely breaking the surface. Still at least half a dozen with no signs yet but many are first year plants (planted last fall). They are about on time according to my database on growth dates so even though the spring is lovely and warm during the day the cool nights are keeping them back. It will be a long time (end of May or so) before I see a flower. Shrug! But that is normal. I have Athena and look forward to seeing it after seeing your bloom. Hurray!

Liz,
May be you should consider planting your peonies deeper? What are your current digging guidelines and status on development ? Smiling

Annette- your blooms are gorgeous! And yes, I think your ' Do Tell' has been affected by something environmental.

Thank you all for your kind comments about 'Athena' . I have had her since 2010 from Adelman's. She generally is the first herbaceous to bloom in my garden. She is not as tall this year and I believe it is because of the weird weather.
We are entering a stretch of nice days so I am hopeful more peonies will open. I have lots of buds showing color.
Thank You!

Two more pips showed up. Coral Sunset and Nosegay. Have to check the front yard to see how they are doing.

I have started planting them a bit deeper, right at 2 inches and heavy mulch over that, Alex. Unfortunately the ground warms so early then we have the crazy cold weather. Poor things think it's safe to come up then they get schwacked...

Oscar, your tree peonies are huge, looking forward to seeing them bloom!

LG, that Blonde Bision bud is perfect, looks like you're about to have a beautiful bloom.

Mine is barely 2" above ground now, LG, and yours is ready to pop open! Has your Blonde Vision increased quickly? I was wondering if it would get bigger faster in a warmer climate. Mine is slowly, very slowly, getting bigger but I certainly have to baby it along. The blooms make it worthwhile, though.

Thanks for the foliage pics, Annette. I knew all of the other coral semi-doubles were wrong and the plant wasn't Lovely Rose! I'll compare the pic to the foliage that's out now, from memory it seems pretty similar. Hopefully I can get out there before it starts snowing tomorrow, otherwise I'll have to wait several days...

Your picture of the bloom yesterday was pretty much a perfect duplicate of my blooms. Have you noticed that it has adventitious roots? The one I'm trying to ID certainly does, grows back from some seriously small pieces of root.

I hope when the weather turn warmer they will be ok. I was thinking to cover them up last night, but with strong wind going 20-40 MPH, nothing is going to stay cover.

But the buds won't bloom completely, I was watching it see any progress for the last 4 days, and this morning I take a close look, it's all brown inside. Pictures taken this morning.

Oh, Yan, how truly sad. We wait so long to see the beautiful blooms, and then they are ruined. You have my sympathy. I hope your later bloomers fare better. Sighing!

Sad Sorry about that Yan. I don't know if my tree peonies fare any better. I got so tired covering them and uncovering them that I did not do the last time when it got the coldest.

Karen, I hope your TP will be OK too. All my Chinese TP form buds early this year, I hope the late variety will do better.

I checked on my tree peony and was really happy to see more new growth both from the ground on from the woody portion. Maybe it will actually grow some this year. I would be happy even if it just develops a bigger stronger woody bush. And for sure I will cover it this winter.

Those look really nice, Yan! What kind of ink do you use to write the names? Are those copper plated labels?
