Thank you Mary! I need to place and order with them, too. They have a great selection.

Sharing some pics taken from my garden. It will be a while before I can see some peony blooms here.

I saw one peony in their 'sold out' section that was gorgeous and I would love to have it but it will not be available til 2020!! Amazing. Not sure if they ever have sold it and it is new, or it got oversold. I would be believe over sold due to its beauty. I have seen some like that in the US such as Nose Gay. I couldn't find it for a while. Or perhaps it was May Apple. Shrug!

That looks great Lily! Did you see any buds on the Bartzella? Hopefully you get a bud. If you don't, I think you will get some flowers from it next year. Some of my peonies from Bannister are showing buds but some do not. Thanks for the tip of their closing sale last year.

Oh my Mary, 2020 is such a long time away! But I guess you can't hurry peony increases no matter how hard you want to. I wonder if they do tissue culture of their seedlings?

They say not. They take the long arduous path to roots. No tissue cultures. Or, can they tissue culture to increase their own stock then grow them to roots. Would they then be like regular peony roots?

Lily,
Are there daffodils behind Bartzella on your first pictures? Trying to improve appearances and do some inter-planting. My understanding that daffodils need dividing once every few years - are you happy how they perform with peonies in terms of space allocation? At the moment trying 2 different ground covers - sweet woodruff and some sedum. See how they perform - may be simply mulching with pine needles better.

Mary Stella, I think tissue cultured plants that are grown in place for several years to divide and sell would be like any other peony as long as the specimen they started with was a good example of the variety. I don't think there's any inherent differences in the tissue cultured plants, most people don't want them just because they're normally sold as much smaller, potted plants instead of larger roots. If they're advertised as tissue cultured and the size of the plant is advertised and the price is good for the size of the plant it can be a good way to get more varieties at a lower price, just have to wait longer for blooms.

This is Roselette in full bloom with Early Scout in the background. Gives people wanting Roselette a good idea of its blooming time.

Karen, I didn't see any bud. It would be wonderful to see it bloom next year. Looking forward to it.

Hi Alex,

Last fall, I dug lots of bulbs from my garden as I am redoing a bed along the driveway. I want succession of blooms. I was thinking that the daffs will die back anyway leaving the peonies to grow until fall. Although I don't divide my daffs, you pointed out a future problem for my peonies. I should have dug another hole for the daffs and not plant them with the peonies. I was running out of time last fall. The bulbs and roots should be in the ground before the ground freezes! I have a spot in my garden that I planted all sorts of bulbs with a peony and the peony was doing fine but no daffs in it.

I think that sedum and sweet woodruff are good under plantings for the peonies. I think they'll look great. I interplanted my peonies with lilies and irises and it worked for me and mulched the bed.

I need to thin out the irises.

As you can see, I am not thinking of space allocation at all! *Blush*

Lily, I am thinking about space allocation all the time and end up with putting too much stuff too close anyway ! I am always trying to squeeze extra and regret it afterwards ! Your garden looks totally awesome with rosy snouts, daffodils and tulips. Thumbs up
I am amazed how some gardeners are managing to make non-stop show of flowers and foliage with different plants within limited space.

Your beds look so nice and neat, Lily. They will look awesome once everything starts blooming. I am still learning how to incorporate plants so that they will bloom in succession and still look harmonious. Spacing is definitely a challenge.

Van Engelen has put out their Fall 2016 bulb catalog and I ordered 'Purple Spider' from them. Is anyone growing this? Someone on FB posted that it is truly purple so I thought I would give it a try. I have ordered peonies from them before and they have been true to name.
Their daffodils are wonderful BTW.
