Just looked at database photos of Early Scout and it sure looks right, the leaves are spot on. Is it slow to increase? This one took several years to form a clump.

I took a pic of mine and the buds are showing color so it should not be too long before they explode with blooming. It was planted in 2009 in a raised bed under nearly ideal condition. I think it has stabilized as to size of the crown so there probably will be not much increase from where it is now. My blossoms are a darker red than the camera indicates, probably somewhere between a red and a burgundy. Darker than the regular fern leafs. I shall try to check as far as the original hybridization.

The database says it was introduced in 1952, so it could be the one. This one is cherry red, or slightly pinkish red- enough that it looks good with pinks.

This is Early Scout from 05-01-2013. These pics are out of the direct sunlight and are close to the correct color.

Annette, are you sure of the Do-Tell? I thought is was more of the Japanese form, with large guard leaves and the tiny ones in the center.

Annette, your landscape is just gorgeous! Lovey dubby I also wondered about Do Tell, looks like that first bloom may be what iris folks call a chimera - an oddling that sometimes occurs due to various environmental conditions.

LG, Athena is lovely- very special! How long have you grown it? Is it always the first hybrid herbaceous to bloom?

Athena has such an exquisite color and marking. I love it! Wish mine would form a clump fast. Right now it is showing only one stem. Don't know what happens. Confused

Perhaps Annette or LG can start a new thread titled Peonies Blooms 2016. It will make it easier to view the blooms again later. Thank You!

Thanks for your kind comments Karen, Tracey, and Neal.

Mary and Neal, that bloom is on my Do Tell plant. I wonder if our weird weather has affected the formation of the blooms?

Beautiful bloom Patty!

As requested, I've started a Peony Blooms 2016 thread. Please also post your beautiful blooms there.

Annette, I think you just helped me figure out what the peony I had labelled as Lovely Rose is--Pink Hawaiian Coral. I KNEW it had too many petals to be Lovely Rose! Can you please post pics of the foliage so I can compare?

Funny, I've bought PHC a couple of times thinking it had never survived a winter here. If this ID is correct it's been growing in the same spot for the last 7 years and been divided multiple times.

Got you by a single year, Caroline! Planted mine fall 2014 and it bloomed last year, hope you have the same luck!

Guess where is expected to get 12" of snow Saturday into Monday this weekend? Guess who is going to be covering a LOT of fully emerged with some buds peonies today? YYYAAAAAYYYY!!! So much fun!

Oh no! So sorry to hear you have to go through this again. All I can say is I hope this will be the last storm that you have to deal with. Wish you the best of luck with your peonies.
