I was so done with winter already this year. I really didn't think it would be back but guess I am wrong.

Storm just got downgraded...now predicting only 1-4 inches. Will only have to put on one sander and a couple/few plows. Much better than getting 13 trucks ready!

Yikes. My turnips are coming up already. I thought that is really fast. No sign of the beets as yet which were planted on the same day.

Beets are a little slow.....are you keeping them in pots, or are you transplanting to the garden, Rita?

I will transplant out to the garden. Not even sure if the transplanting will work or if I will have to redo by direct sowing. But I have a lot of seed so I thought I would try it this way first.

I planted some sunflower seeds today. Hope something comes up as I have three really lovely varieties.

Red Sun, Magic Roundup and a tiny seeded one called Pan.

Tomorrow I will sort thru my melons and cucumbers and start that set up. The melons do need to be started and soon the cucumbers. Have lots of seed of interesting varieties on both.

Of course I just did my summer squashes so we will see what pops up there.

Next to start on my veggie seeds are the melons. As in Cantaloupe types. Then the cucumbers. I also have not yet started my Dill and Cilantro. I think I should just start filling my seed trays and making labels. This will be my last flat of veggies for my indoor project.

I don't have any Eggplant but I plan to simply buy some seedlings locally.

Yes, mine are always on a trellis. I like my cucumbers off the ground and growing up nets. It really saves on room that way and U can grow more cucumbers.

Last year I only had one trellis of about 12 feet. This year I have that one and a bunch of others I have put up in the Fall. So lots more room and many more cukes going to be growing.

Also going to do the melons which are cantaloupe types on a trellis.

Room to spread isn't a problem in my garden since I have cut way back on the amout of veggies I grow....I just wondered if my harvest would be greater....I think I may trellis a few of the plants.....

Honestly don't know that it makes a difference on harvest amounts except for the fact that slugs and pests more or less keep away from getting into any fruit.

My mom always grew veggies when I was a child and she let her cucumbers just sprawl on the ground. We still had plenty of cucumbers to eat.

Turnips I started inside are leggy wimps so they will have to be tossed. The beets came up but now all the little seedlings have died. So much for starting both of those inside. I will have to direct sow as soon as it warms up some.

I will have to get some new pictures of the flats of tomato seedlings. They are growing nicely and now much bigger so starting to resemble tomato plants instead of little starts. Of course they have a lot to grow yet.

I had them outside again today as it was a mild day. They had been inside each day for a while now as the weather had been cold. When inside I put the fan on them for a time to get them toughened up.
