Marilyn, it does my heart good to see that you have been able to find some varieties that work for you climate conditions.
Awesome. Thumbs up

Tim I missed all the sunshine. Just got home to rain, and more rain. And rain all the way from Sacramento to Dallas today. But we did have an uneventful tip. That's a very good thing.
Those semps sure look happy to have had the sunshine. Thumbs up

Wow Daniel, your collection really has increased. Can't wait to see those big pots all filled in next year. Hurray!

Daniel... I'm curious... where did you get that selection of cultivars? Did you get a CARE package from Lynn?

I purchased most of my cultivars from Lynn but I also bought a few online. I have a few more semps and sedums coming in shortly I'll be sure to post pics of them when they arrive also.

Best buddies. Hilarious! You know it's a rainy Fall when mushrooms pop up through your gravel mulch.

Is the PNW the semp growing capital of the world? Seems like 90% of the Sempervivum growers on here are from Oregon or Washington.

The PNW is an amazing place to grow semps. As is many of the northern states like where goldfinch (Chris) lives. Wisconsin. They love her winter weather.

Northwestern Cascadia's climate is reasonably favorable to semps. They tend to appreciate the lack of intense heat, and the humidity is generally not too high and not too low. But they don't much like the pouring rains in the winter but they mostly manage to deal with that as long as there's good drainage. There's plenty of places around the country just as good or better. I think the large group of Northwesterners on this forum was mostly a coincidence that later snowballed. Confused That fits me anyway as I likely wouldn't have participated here so much had I not met and socialized with the other local yokels.

I bet you all have a ball when you get together. I really enjoy reading your posts Tim, I'm glad you stuck around.
90% of our days in this part of South Carolina from July through August are upper 90's to over 100F but our winters get cold sometimes we dip down to 9F but our normal winter lows hover around 20F. Any tips on keeping my semps happy in such extremes? I doubt the cold will hurt them but it's the brutal summer heat that has me worried. I grow all my semps in pots so they can be moved to a shaded area in summer if need be.

Daniel, cold and dry winter weather is what can hurt semps. Just ask CDsSister (Marilyn), the Denver winters can be brutal for her semps.

Thanks Lynn we are a lot warmer than Denver they drop to -10F or colder. Would 9F be cold enough to harm them? I'm so confused I thought wet winters was worse for them than dry winters. Should I water them in winter if they go thorough a dry spell?

If they get snow cover they are fine, and protected from cold drying winds. If they start to dry out during cold dry winter winds with no snow cover, you can water them enough to keep them from drying out.
Hope this makes sense?
