Please! Slug Buster? I should call plant services on the person that named that flower and have it removed from that environment!

I am planning a memorial garden based on appropriate names for departed family and friends. So far, just in my head, but I can usually find a good match in either an iris or daylily, both would grow well on the hillside I plan to use.

Iris 'Stacy Ruth' for my husband's parents (their first names)
Daylily 'Sundance' for my folks (the name of their boat)
Iris 'Judy's Smile' for my sister-in-law
Daylily 'Leprechaun's Luck' for my short Irish uncle who beat his own odds more than once
Iris 'Louder Still' for my brash boss/co-worker
Daffodil 'Grandma's Gift' scattered here and there for all the grandmas

Haven't yet decided how I want to mark the garden - name of plant, name of person, year passed, maybe age, maybe cause of death, maybe laminated photo, maybe just in my head, still cogitating... Then it will be a challenge to actually find a source for each plant.

I love the sound of the word "Organza" - and it's a beautiful, sheer, girly fabric, as well.
So I ordered it.

Well, if we are going to include iris not yet acquired, I should get and probably will one day, Puddy Tat. That was the name we gave my one and only cat when I was a child. She had a mustache and we tried to name her Charlie Chaplin, but it didn't stick. Instead since Sylvester and Tweetie were popular then with "I taut I taw a Puddy Tat" she got that name. Love cats but found I was very allergic, although more to some than others. A dentist told us that because of constant nose-blowing the shape of my face was changed and I had to have extensive orthodontic work. Some cats even cause me asthma. If there are cats in Heaven, I am going to have oodles.

Deb, I have several memory beds, each with plants somehow related to the person(s) for whom it was created. Check my plant list. If you see something you would like to have, treemail me.

Thanks, Debra! At this point I am still in planning stages, no firm idea where the garden will actually go. Some plants I have obviously chosen for the name, but I really like the ones that are descriptive of the person. It's a fun work-in-progress.

Deb, you probably already know this, but if you go to the data base, look at the right side of the screen and click on the word Iris, or daylily, or whatever, it takes you to an advanced search. Then type in the word you want and all of the plants with that name in it anywhere will come up. Good luck with your bed.

I found an iris named Patches, and that would have been a nice one to plant on my dog's grave, but it wasn't one I'd enjoy so I guess not. I do have Oasis Patches, I guess I could move it there.

It is name appropriate and you like it, so that would be a nice gesture Tom.

I got "Special Kay" for my Mother-in-law so when she came to see my blooms, I would have one for her. She did not know this and it was going to be a surprise. Her name was "Minnie" and not "Kay". Her mother's name was "Minnie" as well; so her family called her Kay to not be confusing. She was known as Kay in grade and high school as well. Most of her brothers did not know her real name was Minnie until well into high school.

She unfortunately passed away in November of 2014; three months after getting "Special Kay". The Iris decided not to bloom in 2015 ( my wife did not know I had planted it either and wanted to see it when I first told her about it. She said it was sad and that is why it did not bloom!)

It is indeed beautiful, Greg, and so was the relationship you had with your Mother-in-law, Kay. She must have been a very nice person.
