I am planning a memorial garden based on appropriate names for departed family and friends. So far, just in my head, but I can usually find a good match in either an iris or daylily, both would grow well on the hillside I plan to use.
Iris 'Stacy Ruth' for my husband's parents (their first names)
Daylily 'Sundance' for my folks (the name of their boat)
Iris 'Judy's Smile' for my sister-in-law
Daylily 'Leprechaun's Luck' for my short Irish uncle who beat his own odds more than once
Iris 'Louder Still' for my brash boss/co-worker
Daffodil 'Grandma's Gift' scattered here and there for all the grandmas
Haven't yet decided how I want to mark the garden - name of plant, name of person, year passed, maybe age, maybe cause of death, maybe laminated photo, maybe just in my head, still cogitating... Then it will be a challenge to actually find a source for each plant.
