Thanks Dirt! Oh, I do pluck and sniff every single one! Hilarious! The jonquilla hybrids are all wonderfully fragrant, like Golden Echo, Sweetness, Hillstar, Pippit, Pappy George, etc. My favorite for scent is later to bloom, Geranium. Oh, and Fragrant Breeze is really nice, and a lighter, softer fragrance than most daffs, but still carries on the breeze. I love when I catch the scent wafting from a distance!

Spectacular Neal! Thanks for sharing your gorgeous pictures!

Thanks for sharing the info about the fragrant daffs. I like love scented blooms.

The most fragrant one for me here is Sir Winston Churchill. I have it planted along my back walkway.

Neal what can I say except MAGNIFICO! Hurray! Hurray!
I was smelling what I think to be Thalia and it had a mild scent of paperwhites, so I said I won't be doing that again. Your daffs.. I don't have the words.
Annette my SWCs are coming to an end in one bed and just starting in another. Lovely pictures and great scent. Thumbs up

Must be heaven!
I tried a couple new-for-me jonquillas last year--one didn't bloom at all and the other was amazing--just kept going and going and changing from yellow to white-- very neat
I should see if I can find those pics since it will be a while 'til I see how much the maggots liked them

Sir Winston! Yes, a favorite here too!

...and to answer the Q's

most all the kaufmanniana are on their third spring, a few are on their second--yes, they are doing very well and multiplying like crazy Smiling

and, depending on the weather, yes, this is within the "normal" time range which could be late March to late April--for hyacinths to begin to show in the warmer areas of my yard, some are a bit slower
Thumb of 2016-03-26/dirtdorphins/e49d48

I got this one

to go with a tulip that isn't even thinking about blooming yet Hilarious!

the one downside, though is how goofy they look when they divide and how long they take to beef back up, if ever

Dirt, thank you for the answer regarding bloom time and it's quite useful to me as I learn quite a bit about what is normal (if there ever is a normal in gardening!) for different areas and growing zones in the US just by looking at the blooms of every ones posts.

I know this isn't the photo critique thread, but I must comment on this very nice intimate Scillia portrait as the low angle and the light is excellent, so is the framing. Very clean, with no cut of flowers, which can be very hard to achieve in a garden setting Thumbs up .

Thanks everybody! Everything is about 2 weeks earlier than usual this year, the single early, Darwin hybrid, and Fosteriana tulips have all started blooming. Its supposed to be sunny and 67 today, so I should see some nice open blooms when I get home from work Big Grin

Carol, I'm as hoggish with irises, perennials, roses, or any pretty bloomer that will grow here! Rolling on the floor laughing My first little flower bed as a child was composed of spring bulbs, so they'll always have a special soft spot in my heart Lovey dubby

Reminds me of a little funny- I was a quiet, shy child (hard to believe, I know..), and rarely got into trouble. I can only recall one spank on the behind, and it was for picking (stealing) a red tulip out of someone's yard! I remember so clearly that shiny red bloom, and picking it before I even had time to think- I was mesmerized by it. When that slap on the behind jolted me I realized exactly what I had done.

Dirt, your scilla photo is indeed excellent! You're so talented and artistic I tip my hat to you. I chuckled at your comment about the goofy hyacinths after they split- I kinda like them better after they split Hilarious! Some of these warm days we've had have caused the stems to lengthen and then the heavy head bends over. There is actually something kind of graceful and pretty about the way they look laying over though.

Neal, I'm completely overwhelmed by the extent (and) your tracking ability) of your daffodil collection and presentation. You are the Kentucky Champion.
I hope you (and all 'daffodilers') put your pics in the db as it could always use some 'bolsterization'.
I am truly impressed Neal!

Is Mrs Langtry from OHG? (I seem to remember their account of her namesake).

Classic Garden does look good (well all of them do). Winter Waltz was one of my best forcers this year, looks like it did well for you. Golden Echo was a past best forcer, also looking good for you. Full Throttle is now on my list of to get acquisitions.

Bravo Neal!

Nice hyacinths (and pics) dirt!
You too, Annette.

Neal, that is a daffodil extravaganza! I kept giving thumbs up as I scrolled through photos on post after post - didn't realize there would be so many and then thought I should stop the thumbs up so you wouldn't get bombarded with them, but I just couldn't help myself Rolling on the floor laughing

I do love daffodils - really partial to tiny dainty ones like 'Hawera' and anything in the Cyclamineus division, but I love them all. My favorite from your photos is 'Winter Waltz', imagine that. Years ago I got the idea to plant thousands of daffodils along an old logging trail behind the house, actually named it the 'Daffodil Trail'. All the daffodils are still alive, but rarely have bloomed after the first year or two. I think it is just way too shady and I haven't been able to spend the time tending all my gardens while I'm still working full time, so all the fall leaf debris lays on top of them. I wonder if they will recover to blooming glory if I can keep up with the leaves or if the shade will always be a limiting factor.

Not from 2016, no daffodils blooming here yet, but these are some photos from the early years of that trail.

The Daffodil Trail blooms were beautiful Terri! Have they been fertilized, and is there a way to limb the trees up to allow more sunlight?

Glad to see your muscari and leucojum blooming!

The Pink Mix tulips that I got on sale from HD are blooming beautifully. I hope I can find them on sale again this year.

We are about a week away from blooms in my area. I did force some bulbs and put them on the patio today.

I picked up a bag of mixed tulips and this is one of them that bloomed early. The others have buds but not blooming yet.

Thanks Jack! Definitely daffy for daffodils here Big Grin It's a good year for color intensity. I noticed how much more bright orange is in Pinza this year compared to last year's photo. I read a comment about Classic Garden while searching the Daffodil data base saying the orange was not bright, but it looks great this year!

Terri, I love Daffodil lane!

Annette, I literally gasped when I saw your photos! Gorgeous I tip my hat to you.

Annette, that whole kitchen steps area is pretty darn nice!!!

To answer the question about my daffodil trail non blooming woes, I've thinned out and limbed up the trees there but haven't fertilized. Without spending time getting the leaves up I didn't think the fertilizer would even make it to the bulbs. With any luck, I'll be retired by the 2017 gardening season and can't wait to spend day in and day out in the gardens. I am really curious to see how much better they might perform when I have the time to spend on them. What should I be using for fertilizer and how often/what times of year should I be doing it?

Neal, I've never tried Ipheion but they are really pretty. Do they prefer sun or shade? Also, we have the same taste in the purple pots Green Grin! I have that exact shade of pots accented throughout the gardens. I decided a few years ago that I needed a pop of color - thought about the cobalt blue that is so popular, but then thought that shade of purple would be better suited in my gardens. Hard to find them though. This spring, I'm getting a local upholsterer to make me an outdoor cushion in that shade to put on my bench arbor. I don't seem to have a photo of it from my garden, but this is the vendor catalog photo. I have an akebia vine growing on it. Nice little reading spot, but will be much more comfortable with a cushion and pillow.

My father has planted 'Ice Follies' many places in his yard - always makes me smile when I see them. I guess I never really paid attention to even notice that the cups change color intensity at the different maturity levels.
