Rose, I will have to check out the hostas with streaked leaves this spring at the nursery, very interesting looking. Nice seedling you have there too.

Margaret......I have about 150 in my garden. Some of the pictures were from a friends garden. He has around 250 and many of them are large mature plants...

Hostas are mainstay plants in my shady gardens too. At the time I acquired each one, I put a label next to it. That was several years ago, and since then the labels have disappeared (hopefully just buried in mulch). One of my goals for 2016 is to dig around the ones whose names I have forgotten to see whether their labels are still there and, if so, whether they are still readable.

Here are some of my hostas:

'Touch of Class' (a tetraploid with more substance than most of my other hostas) in late summer

Lovely photos of healthy-looking plants Lovey dubby In recent years I have bought a lot of tets because they do seem to have thicker leaves and greater slug resistance. My all time favourite for its markings is hosta War Paint, which sadly isn't a tet, but we surround it with mineralised wheat straw mulch which keeps the nasty slugs away.

I looked for a US distributor of mineralised wheat straw mulch and did not find one. Nuts, could have used that product.

So many really gorgeous Hostas posted I am going to start shopping again

Touch of Class is really a beauty in the spring! I have some that are just stunning in the spring but tend to "calm down" as the season progresses!

Grand Prize early spring (I love the yellow border in the spring)

Grand Prize mid spring (Border is more white soon after it emerges in my gardens) It's still pretty, though!

Thanks! I'm lucky to have a lot of shaded areas to plant my collection in. I have over 700 varieties and still have bare spots in my gardens! Since I live in sand my hosta don't seem to ever achieve the size that they are supposed to, but that's okay with me. Gives me more room for new ones!

Paul,

Every time I see your pictures I get a little more jealous! I may have more, but your gardens are beautiful! You definitely have an eye for arranging the colorful foliage so they compliment each other!
