These contests seem to get us thinking of spring and getting our hands dirty! Been a long time since there was a good discussion here in the hosta forum. It's always nice to see your pictures. It's got me looking at photos of what I had last year in my gardens and longing for warmer days!

Paul your hostas are beautiful, and I know that you hybridize too, are all those in the photos in your garden?

Are those photos in the database? in order for the photos to count in the favorite shade plant is has to be linked to the database, which is very easy to do.

Margaret.....The majority of the Hostas pictured are in my garden, some at a friends, and a few other places. I have added many Hosta pictures to the data base, over 1800, but am not certain that all I am posting have been added as I take many pictures. ....... I find the rules a little unclear, at least to me.....oh well....old age. Shrug! ........Oh dear I double posted when I edited.....silly me

Not a problem Paul, just edit your first post and delete it.

I think you grow great hostas, and that must be a record number that you put in the database, wow. Thumbs up

To link to the database, find the hosta photos that you have added, click on the photo you want to add, copy the code above the photo and paste it here. Do the same thing with other plants to start a thread or add in other threads.

Thanks for the suggestions Margaret. I fear that many of the pictures I have been posting on these threads are near duplicates of ones that I have already added to the data base. I take several and try to choose the best.

Because I feel this comment is worthy of being included in our hosta discussion and the picture is worth 1000 words, I wanted to quote it here. Hope that is OK.

cliftoncat said:I love all hostas, but have special fondness for some, including H Regal Splendor. It flourishes in the shade, is really elegant in shape, and more resistant to slugs than many other varieties.

Rose, those are truly georgeous pictures of Hosta. I bought Pandora's Box as a mini. I am waiting to see if it survived winter. It was soooooo tiny. I had about 5 in a pot. This is all a learning process for me.

Don't know if it's helping with our votes but I'm sure enjoying seeing all the gorgeous plants and gardens. It would be great to keep this going on the Hosta forum for the long term. I for one love discussing hostas. Thumbs up

I was wondering about our comments counting once the thread was started. I hope so, but it is nice to see hostas this time of year!

There's the old trite saying that ' a picture is worth a 1000 words' and I have so enjoyed every ones pictures but I may have enjoyed the discussion even more. I hope some enthusiasm for the Hosta Forum will continue in the future.......

Very nice! Your walkway really finishes it off. It looks clean and neat. I love the pea gravel look. I have so many pine needles to clean up every spring that would be a real pain to clean out of the rock.

Gerry, your hosta filled shade garden is beautiful, I would love to have that much space to plant lots more. Maybe this summer I will plant a few in containers, the problem with that here is keeping them alive during the winter.

One question for you experts out there. I have read that mineralised straw mulch, or Copper netting, and ammonia spray is the best deterrent for the slug problem. What do each of you use. I have put tiny pebbles or chicken grit around mine as well as diatomaceous earth with good success.

I Would like to hear from @paul2032 @profesora and any others who seem to have large gardens filled with Hostas.
