Good thing we got that figured out! The stephanotis looks happy on my porch - although I came home to half a Brug. What is wrong with the animals in my neighborhood??!!!

I just got in from watering everything, after I hauled it to the backyard. DH found the little square glasses online! Hope you have a nice birthday dinner and don't fall asleep in your sushi!
J&T showed up right after you left, so i didn't get anything done.

### Okay guys, if you're anywhere in the vicinity of Seguin in the next few days, Green Gate Nursery has reduced their prices on quite a few plants. Carey and I spent the day there and filled the truck and the bed of the truck with a load of plants. Both the perennials and the bedding plants, including the hard to find kinds, were $1. for 4" pots.

I'm still planting the little things. I had 44 4" pots, plus all the big stuff. And I still forgot to ask for IDs on those salvias. The black-eyed susan vine looks like it's been here forever! Spray painted lawn furniture, moved everything off patio, and now I'm going back out to power-wash patio.

We came down with the dogs so there wasn't much time to go shopping. I love walking through the neighborhoods and along the lake. The plant selections always impress me. I noticed Silver Falls Dichondra in several places as ground cover in very sunny area. I always thought it was for shade...It looked very nice.

Thank you for this, I am originally from Canada and gardening down here is a lot different. I have been here for almost 20 years and grow flowers and such, but just recently started trying to grow veggies again. It is different here so I am looking forward to reading input from other Texas gardeners.

Glad you're here, Sharon! I saw you painted buntings tonight. I would be dragging the neighbors into my yard to see them!

Hi and Welcome Sharon! Growing some vegetables here in Austin this year. My tomatoes are around 5' tall and I've got plenty of fruits if the birds and critters don't get to them first! I opted to try heirloom varieties this year and they're doing much better than the hybrids I had last year (of course, the heat and drought didn't help there). Also have 2 tomatillos (although different varieties - curse the cutworms), 2 peppers (again, army worms have been a nighmare), and a few herbs. Found out this past weekend that parsley and cilantro prefer shade (guess I should move them) for best results.

Critter problems lately. Last night something messed with a hummingibrd feeder and I found the lower part on the ground. Something wanted nectar. Today the free-range chickens were foraging outside the fence when I heard a huge chicken ruckus. I saw dogs and yelled at them from the yard, but they wanted chicken dinner and wouldn't back down. I went out and threw rocks at them and got between what I hoped was them and the chickens (poor little chicks were running all over and one of the two hens was up in the tree screetching at the top of her lungs). Finally, the dogs backed away after some rock-throwing. But they just hung around on the downhill side by the street, still hoping to get some chicken. The jerk across the street finally called them off. I know the chickens aren't mine, but those dogs don't have any right to be here at all. I've got to check in a little while to see if the poor terrorized hen is still in the tree. The others chickens seem to be gone. Sigh! I'm just too old for this, ya know!

You know, I've figured out a sure-fire way of making it rain here. Seriously - no fail.

Pepper-spray any plants in the yard. Finally got the deer/squirrels from eating plants in front...now I've got some critter (probably a possum/skunk/raccoon) eating my tomatoes (broke my Black Cherry in half last night - GGRRR) so I sprayed about an hour ago. You should hear the thunder! I don't know whether to cheer for the rain and scream because I have to go spray again!! I'm so conflicted!

Linda, you deserve some sort of award...That must have been quite a showdown!
Welcome Sharon...I am also from Canada about 18 years ago we moved from Montreal. Where are you from? I try off and on to grow tomatoes. I find my biggest success is growing kale and swisschard and garlic in winter.

Water company sent a letter. I'll just put the worst part:
"For the next several weeks we must ask that you refrain from doing any outside watering."
No! They can't just ask me to let the plants die! Grumbling
Basicly, they put in a new RO unit not long ago and it's broke (my word, not theirs). I'm betting that the "new" RO wasn't new, either. Darn company is pretty worthless, if you ask me! So they switched to the old RO, which barely works.
Rant over, for now!

You'll have to start saving your bath water. There's a huge thunderstorm up near the lake, but it'll die out just before reaching Austin. The skies are cloudy...and that's about all we'll get today.
