What a drag. I wish some of the rain we are getting would reach you. What does RO mean?

It's Reverse Osmosis...one of the processes that any real water treatment uses. The water from the community well goes to two different subdivisions out here and a big water company is paid to maintain everything about the water system and the small treatment plant. We've had 3 different water companies since we've lived out here and the problems with them have always been aggravating. I suspect the "new" RO system wasn't really new...or it would be working! I have reasons to be cynical about these companies.

Rained hard at the lake and not a drop here. Garden tour is Sunday. Good day for a hail storm with my luck!

Sandi, I don't think we'll even get that. This weekend's forecast is looking pretty painful. Thumbs down

Dry here...really need rain! Monday is forecasted to be hot! I just want to avoid drought and extreme heat. IMHO, I think the weather spirits owe us that.

Well, here at wildlife central TX, we have new "pets." A mother Urocyon cinereoargenteus has made a den for her babies in front of our fence in the front yard under heavy shrubs. She was briefly caught in the raccoon trap the other night while feasting on chicken and fruit by the pond. We could tell she had a family by her swollen tummy. We let her go out front, not knowing she had her den conveniently located there!
She's very docile and doesn't seem to mind us gawking at her. We think she used to be under our neighbor's deck, but moved to a quieter spot when the neighbors' parties may have kept her pups up at night! Whistling

I just thought it sounded a lot more "upscale" than the old common name. Hilarious!

Well...you made me go google it, Sandi! Nice! Sounds like the fox has moved in. Hmm. You don't have pets, do you? I'd also have sympathy for a pregnant animal, but couldn't encourage it because of my cats...and there are still some chickens alive. BTW, only a few the younger chickens are still here, I think 3 not-yet grown and one smaller one. I thought the small one was gone, but then saw it again and realized the other day it's been in hiding...don't blame it, must have seen a bunch of family members killed...and now no adult to look after it. They're probably staying under the big shed at night. Some more deer have moved into the area lately and I even see them during the day now. Not sure why they're here...maybe less vegetation left where they came from...or they remembered the crazy lady who left food and water out for them here last summer? Anyway, I've been putting out deer feed again. Never stopped putting out water. Oh...and I'd love to see a pic of the fox if you get one!

Here she is when I first found her in the cage. She seems small compared to the ones we've seen at the lake. In the second pic you can see why we knew she had pups. I've since talked to the neighbor up the street, who says she's seen the fox eating birdseed off the ground in her yard in the evening. (I know she doesn't care for papaya. Sad Only likes meat, so far).

Anyway, we understand that the coyotes keep the fox population down. Now that they have started trapping coyotes out here, the deer are back. I guess the fox feels safe too.

Residents Asked to Avoid Using Trails Near Kittansett Cove Until Coyote Trapping Ends

Wildlife management damage biologists are trapping coyotes in the greenbelts south of Kittansett Cove (off of Arronimink). The Lost Creek MUD has asked the LCNA to spread word to residents to avoid using the trails in that area until further notice.

The report is that the biologist will remove one or two coyotes from a pack which has been making nightly attacks on dogs in a resident's yard. The expectation is that the pack will react to the removal by moving to a new location.

If you use walk in those areas, please check the Today's Headlines section of the MUD website before venturing back into that area."

So cute! My only wildlife visitor was a bird that built a nest in my neglected watering can. I was surprised when I moved it a a bird flew out. I saw the eggs, then open mouths of the babies and the upset mama everytime the dogs or I went out back. Finally the baby was ready to fly away.
What are you going to do with your fox ?

The wildlife guys say they can carry rabies. I know we have wildlife management baiting at the lake, for fox and skunks with potential rabies. This little fox looks like she's been thru a lot and is about to leave those kids at the local fire station, so we're feeding her and leaving water out in front of the fence. I think she's still getting in at night and checking out the backyard, but I don't go out there after dark. I haven't seen the pups. I think she'll just up and leave when they're ready and head back to the creek area.

Tonight she dines on doggie bag fried catfish and apple slices. I'm sure PETA will be horrified!

Nice fox! I've seen them in the wild before. Once I came upon one on land in the city and the fox and I just stared at each other for quite a while. It's nice that you're helping her. One mother to another.

Quite a storm today! Thunder and lightning and power outage! But the rain was good...something less than 1 1/2 inch.
