We've gotten snow about 4 times in 10 years. Most of the time its gone within 24 hours but everyone's like "Ya'll we need to close the schools &businesses!" We both worked for bread companies (me for Hostess, him for Flowers & then Sara Lee), & hated weather like that. People would get 10 or more loaves of bread & soon shelves would be empty. Then more people would complain & store managers (mostly Walmart) would ask why their shelves were empty. My husband would tell them, All bread companies order a week in advance. We can not predict the weather. Bakeries can't adjust orders on short notice. We do get icy roads & trees falling if you blink so road conditions are bad. My husband once drove roads that cops closed to deliver bread to some stores & not one of them say thank you but they did tell him he would need to pick up anything not sold after "the crisis" was over.

The Tyfon will do great even if it turns cold, but Amaranth will do great if it turns hot. You're covered for any weather except tornadoes. Do you have to cover your jugs with chicken wire when it gets really windy?

Windy and rainy last night , the jugs all look closed , When I go and look I will know . When the snow came through last time we had 50 mph gusts , none of the Jugs came open

Yes I just thought I would try an Amaranth or two as they have self sown here , rarely , My seed was a kitten casualty so from our trade the seeds are ,
The Tyfon , I don't have slightest idea about , so thank you for your info ,

That's cool. I got Amaranth to germinate by direct sowing in early summer, and grow a few inches, then they noticed how cool the weather was where I live.

They stopped growing and got got totally sulky and uncooperative. Then either something ate them or they moved South in the middle of the night.

I'm guessing that slugs discovered that they like baby-leaf Amaranth.

The foliage looks really pretty, but I didn't have good luck growing them in a cool summer area.

I get that here also , some summers barely over 80 degrees like the one past season , Other times summer will go over 100 degrees barely under 80 degrees ,
Hot seasons they look like a wax plant standing nearly 6ft , cooler times they barely grow maybe 3 ft tall ,, Roll the dice .. Shrug!

Sometimes I am growing to much to play the grow garden guessing game , However it happens anyway Green Grin!

I was talking about that on the weather thread ,, I got drenched walking last evening , saying I am glad it was warm ,
Then about preferring snow as to ice , But nature does not care about my druthers ,as said , Sad Grumbling Hilarious!

I know you too can develop plants only the time consideration requires the over control of self nature with me , Blinking Glare

This is the seedling , once again , some plants do not care how cold it gets , it folded it's leaves and rolled up at 16 below chill and 3 below , and it's still there ,, :hurray:
Neither rain nor Sleet nor Blizzard wind or cold will keep this determined seedling from it's appointed bloom Confused Hilarious!

I was going to add Rick , if it grows a nice bloom or is an interesting Vegetable , it might be the plant or seed for your cool weather , I am also hoping the Kilimanjaro Basil makes it through to make seeds , it has before ,

It would probably be smart of me to "train" seeds to my region by saving and growing the same variety each year, killing any plant that seems to lag due to cool weather.

But mainly I save seeds that are easy to save. And any plant that survives and bears fruit is welcome.

My fixation , gets crazy ,, the self control thing , as this seedling suggests , I like this , but 2 or 3 seasons to accomplish , as to creating a plant , The red queen anne''s lace , as leaves) the red yarrow (leaves )
I have gotten near having them , from creating them for myself , That is the concentration , patience , and over discussion sometimes ,
I enjoy the idea ,, Smiling
When I try to much (problem) when I get to fixation max ... things are things though Hilarious!

I agree Rick. I have been outside all day long gardening. I pulled weeds out of our gravel around the fire pit. Stupid since we will use weed killer come March. It was something to do though. I did end up watering the jugs too. Just ready for spring.

If anything can be learned from my yard, a pulled weed is always a good thing. I put it off - they went to seed - now I have weeds everywhere.

Too bad I improved the soil: weed seeds used to land on clay and stones where they would die.
