Kevin, good thing you have hobbies that require you to be indoors. I can't imagine you blowing your horn outside in the rain even in a drizzle! I'm relegated to needlepoint and old movies (age appropriate pastimes for me) when it's pouring outside.

Think I will go out on the back porch and redo some of the larger containers, get them ready for spring.

That's what I've been doing...in the dining room off the sliding glass doors, Lynn. Has the rotating lazy susan been a help?

The big pots are to large/heavy for the lazy susan. Great for the smaller ones though. Love it, thank you so much Bev for this wonderful gift.

Okay Chris, please don't send the snow or sleet. Crying

Glad it could be of some use. I do all my containers on it except the ones that are more than 20 inches in diameter; those are my big pots. I guess those pots would go well with Kevin's up and coming "football" semps... Whistling

No trades of snow for rain Chris! I may have a chance to get a photo on Monday. The biggest rosette has a small vole bite and that may be why I didn't photograph it. Anyway, purple it is. If you can imagine the purple on Emerald Spring spread evenly through the rosette you have the idea.

I'll put Kevin's roller seedling in this thread also.
Kevin, did you say it was an Emerald Spring x allionii cross?

Lynn,

Yes it's from Emerald Spring X allioni 'Yellow Green form'. They were the only two rollers that bloomed in '15 so that was the only cross I could make (except for the reciprocal). The rollers don't bloom very well in my yard although I don't have a lot either.

I have a small batch in the current year's pots and one in '16 too. I promise to do a bit better.

That is a nice one. Not too sure about rollers in general but this one could change my mind.

Thanks! This is one I think might deserve a name. It was very pretty as a first year seedling too. It combines the best attributes of both parents and has the darkest colors you see in just patches on Emerald Spring and spreads it allover the rosette.

A name, you say? Here are some suggestions, free of charge.

Kevin's Purple
Barney (the purple dino)
Purple Tuxedo (it looks like it's wearing one)
Purple Porcupine (it does look spiny)

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some other genius ideas out there from some other folks.

When I was over at Lynn's garden recently I noticed how large some of her rollers had grown. They definitely wow'ed me as they make a completely different impression at larger sizes. It did rekindle my interest in rollers. So naturally I acquired another one from Lynn, here it is freshly situated.

I decided to move 'from Smeryouka' from the greenhouse out to the garden. I don't expect it to look like this living out in the elements.
Thumb of 2017-03-21/tcstoehr/07df57

I really hadn't noticed but 'BT' is steadily gaining girth. The one at Lynn's was awesome, I hope this one measures up.

Tim,

Last time I looked I was still flesh-colored, not purple! OK, couldn't resist! Kevin's Not Purple.

When everyone comes to the clinic we'll use that row of roller seedlings as part of the class as there's a pale green with strong red tips, a glaucous one, and one with unusual form, besides the purple one. Get out your clipboards! I may put you in charge of the discussion on these Tim.

Not even when you're working that clarinet during a difficult piece of music?

Gotta get my name suggestion in: (Purple) Sea Urchin
