Okay, my peeps, I'm just a rookie in the wonderful world of daylilies (3 yrs. in June, 2017), so please humor me.... 👶 Sighing!

Are polys an anomaly (sp?), or are all of the particular cultivar's blooms polys? Confused Confused Confused

Mostly the polymerous condition for a daylily bloom is a rare occurrence but, by the art of astute breeders, some cultivars have been bred that are more often polymerous.

Here is the definition from the American Hemerocallis Society site:
http://www.daylilies.org/ahs_d...

AHS also lists daylilies registered as polymerous at:
http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

Don't the hybridizers often give the percentage of poly blooms a plant is likely to produce, or did I just imagine that?

Yes Larry you are right. Hybridizers need to give a percentage of polymerous blooms when they register a seedling as a polymerous form. The percentage is then listed in with the cultivar registration info. The list of registered polys Glen linked to is the AHS list for Flower Shows (Exhibitions) which only gives the registered name, hybridizer and year.

You are having a great year for polys Glen! Thumbs up

I've compiled a list of polymerous daylilies and the % of the time each one polys: https://cottageinthemeadow.pla...

There are lots more daylilies that poly that are not listed as such by the AHS. That's because polys were not considered a separate group until sometime in the late '90s, if I remember right. One of my hybridizing goals is to create more daylilies that are 100% poly.

You're welcome, Gleni. It's a work in progress, so if you or anyone else comes across a cultivar that's not on the list, I'd appreciate knowing.

Larry - thanks! Love the list you compiled. Very helpful. I enjoy polys, too! What's not to love about them. I starred your post so I can refer back to it. I had no idea there were so many that had higher than 50% poly rates! That is something I am going to look at for the future. I genuinely appreciate that wonderful list you compiled.

BTW - I enjoyed your website, too. I am envious of your gardens design. Beautiful !!! Lovey dubby

Thanks for the compliments and the acorn, Becky! I tip my hat to you.

Mike, 'Isolde' was registered in 1981, when the AHS had not yet created a category for polys, so there's no way of knowing the poly percentage without polling those who grow it.

Gleni,
You're getting some neat ones!

Larry,
Thanks for the list. There are some on there I'd never seen. One can search for registered polys on the AHS database: http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...
It's complete through 2016 though one can't get all the info on the latest ones until they've been published by AHS this year. On the advanced search option click the polymerous box and you will see them with pics.
