A photo of my rescued orchid in bloom this June 2016. Rescued it in late Fall 2014 from our local grocery store. It took awhile but so worth the effort:
It was noid orchid when I got it, bought it then for $5.00. Now that it is in bloom, got its lovely name: Brassidium Fangtastic 'Bob Henley'

Awesome!
I'm still waiting on a bloom from a rescued Dendrobium-like one three years ago. I might have to 'accidentally' leave it outside this winter.
Plant it and they will come.

Thanks Big Grin , had to review my old photos and adjusted the date when I acquired that clearance noid orchid, so it is Fall of 2014 not 2013. It sure is making me more encouraged to try some more rescue orchids next time. I do have another noid rescue orchid, obtained at same time period, but this one is taking more time. But roots are growing strong, so maybe it is just a slower growing one. Patience, patience, patience with these rescued beauties!

I do. I got permission to dig all the plants I wanted from the beautiful, mature gardens of an old gingerbread Victorian house they were demolishing ( i'm still sad about the house; it was really a grand old lady & they flattened it & put up an ugly medical complex Thumbs down Thumbs down ). Anyway, I got old roses, tons of Oriental lilies, daisies, bleeding heart, lily-of-the-valley & quite a lot more I can't recall.
Also, I am allowed to look near the dumpster at the garden stall at our farmer's market & take anything that looks like I can revive it. Have added to my garden tremendously; which my budget would never allow me to buy all those plants.

Applevalle, I'm glad to hear you got to save all those wonderful plants, but sad about the Victorian house--I love those, too.

Picked up a mock orange bush on the clearance rack at Menards on Friday. Was $24.99 and it was marked $10.00. I don't know why it was on the junk rack, it looks really nice. Even had some blooms on it. I set it out in front of the RV, along with the Smoke Bush i bought on Thursday. Made the RV look like home. Green Grin!

AnnaZ you lucky lady you! It seems every time I ask about a sad plant I'm told they go back for credit. I must be shopping at the wrong places! I have gotten cheap plants in the past tho.

Everything at our Menards gets pretty sad looking if you don't grab it practically the minute it comes in ...

Great deal on that mock orange, Anna!

I stopped at Lowe's on my way to my dental appointment this morning. The clearance racks had some good stuff on them. I got three wallflower, two agastache, three guardia, a foxglove, and a small ivy hanging basket. Had to hide my cart because if I got in line to pay I would be late for my appointment. Went back afterwards and everything was still there. Also picked up a couple succulents but they were full price.

The only rescue orchids around here are all Phals. ~ half of my 20 Phals were purchased as rescues at avg $ 5.

And speaking of rescues - been picking up some nice stuff at Lowes. Got a Calibrachoa hanging basket for $3. Looked like hell but just needed some clean up and TLC. Two weeks later it is covered in blooms.

Also got 6 packs of Golden Moneywort for $ 3. A great ground cover that I just love. Have it in 3 of my beds and now I have enough to cover a nasty bank on which nothing will grow.

Well, Sally...wouldn't you just know it... Rolling my eyes. I just happened to be in the neighborhood of my local Lowe's this afternoon! I did maintain a bit of a grip on myself though--only rescued two, and then got a couple of Veronica's to keep them company. Group hug
Got a 1 gallon Delphinium for $1 and a 2 gallon Dahlia for $5 (not a great bargain, but not in horrible shape). Sticking tongue out I'll try to remember to take some pics of them tomorrow. Crossing Fingers! Crossing Fingers!

Guess I should also take some pics of my own plants that need rescuing--some of the poor little babies have been hanging around since last fall waiting to find their "forever home" here. Thumbs down

Note to self: If planning to totally re-landscape the yard, get the work done before buying hundreds of new plants. Whistling Sighing!

Rolling on the floor laughing I might have done that sort of thing myself... well, we've never actually re-landscaped the whole yard, but I do endlessly grow/buy plants that I really have no idea where I'm going to put Whistling

Someday, I want to be a gardener!
The first place I go in a store is the dying plant section...totally addicted. .this is one that I saved this year. It was root bound and waterlogged. I think it was a dollar, very sad looking. Brought her home, gave her a new pot and as you can see she is thriving! I call her big red

I got this hydrangea at Lowe's for I think 3 dollars and planted it this spring Hurray!

Back in 1997 I picked a Black Pine off of the pile of scrawny dying trees to be chipped at the landscape firm I worked for.

It is now a handsome fifteen to twenty foot tree .
