Above is a link so you can do a search of the different Ludwig roses Agave carries. You'll have to type the various named roses from Agave into the search box at the upper right hand corner. OR you can look them up and do a search on Help Me Find.

Here's a list of roses Ludwig's sent me last year that do well in partial shade:

Beauty from within and The Yellow will perform well in partial shade - (please note that without direct sunlight the red/pink outer rim of Beauty from Within will be far less pronounced)
Other varieties that will do well in partial shade are;
South Africa
Easy does it
Elina
Firefighter
Arctic Ice
Beverly
Perfumed Breeze
Gulilah
Count Dracula
The Ridge

It's a nice list Margie.

I have South Africa and looooove it; all three plants. I have Firefighter and am not sure I can keep it alive. Beverly is on my long list of roses to get.. I just planted an Elina.

I planted Harrison's Yellow very early in my rose-growing days and finally grew impatient with it. I appreciate the reminder because there's a spot on my property where I think that rose might look very good.

Gulilah looks like a real find. I must remember to check it out when I do my Palatine order next year.

I went to the Ludwig's Roses site and made a list of roses I'd be very interested in. Then I looked at Agave and found none were on their inventory list. C'est la vie. Garden is getting full...

Steve, I have South Africa too.
Looks like Ludwig has updated it's website for 2017 and some of the Ludwig roses at Agave are not on the newly revised Ludwig website. But you can still find photos and info on them if you google or go to HMF.
Harrison's Yellow is not the same rose as Ludwig's "The Yellow". I bought it last year from Ludwig's in Arizona. I posted photos of it in Garden.Org database - go check it out. The photos were taken shortly after I received it. It's a bright solid yellow color that does not fade. Along the same color as Midas Touch but a smaller size bloom. It's about the size of Ebb tide or Francois Rabelais.
I don't think Palatine's carries Gulilah - maybe at one time they did. I would call Agave and see if Wes has Gulilah available - perhaps he could hold it for you.

I hope you can understand my confusion: typing "The Yellow" at HMF takes one directly to Harrison's Yellow, no other choices. My info on Gulilah came from the same source.

But everything changes.

Steve I absolutely completely understand the confusion esp. since it is not in the HMF database. I wanted to point it out the availability of this rose to you because down the road you might be looking for a partial shade tolerant nonfading yellow rose. I think Wes said The Yellow should be available towards the end of April.

I would bet that nobody tortures roses with shade more than I do, so I appreciate your suggestions! Yellow is, IMO, the most difficult color of rose to find that flourishes in shade.

'Gulilah' is La Rose de Molinard, which I bought from Palatine last fall. It also goes by 'Parfum de Paris' at some nurseries.
I call Agave nurseries and talked to Wes?, I think, and emailed him a list of roses I wanted from the Ludwig collection. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't heard back, which probably is just as well since I still have orders coming from 3 other places. They had so many unique roses, though, and thinking about how I won't be able to get them later drives me bananas.

Cindi, what roses did you order from Agave?

I'm afraid I know the feeling!

Thanks for the naming info on Gilulah.

Steve, I don't know for certain about its performance in shade, but Golden Fairy Tale has been a most vigorous performer for me on the north-east side of the house where I would consider partial shade. I've often found that a particularly vigorous variety will tolerate shade better than others. How many hours of direct sun would you estimate the area you have in mind gets in summer?

Neal, sorry for taking so long to respond. And thanks for the recommendation of Golden Fairy Tale. I keep on finding that Kordes roses do well in my garden.

Every once in a while I have a space that is in need of a rose; more often, though, I play the role of a rose collector and I have a rose that needs space in the garden. In a few weeks I'll be potting up some bands that will be wanting some space in the garden this time next year...

I share Cindi's sentiment (frustration) in seeing unique roses appear on the market only to quickly disappear again.
