yes.. unless you have broad mites you don't need it.. try repeated use of water soaked with mosquito dunks to get the soil gnat larvae.. you have to do it over and over to get them.. it has BT .. a good larvae killer..
oh judo wasn't that much when I did the co-op.. I think we were each into about $40 for a bit of it.. might have been about $350...for the 8 oz then.can't remember how much we got.. but I sent out a syringe to measure out such small quantities.. think it was 3 cc to a liter

well in the cool room it's been a warm fall.. but today was seedpod harvest day.. I had two of them.. a Summer Kisses cross... that's the long one with the buff colored seeds.. and another... I couldn't tell which it is from the tag and i'm not sure where it was growing last summer... a noid x noid.... some of God's usual work.. although he likely remembers where they grew last summer..

I noticed a few aphids a few weeks ago...since my last visit to inside the cool room a few weeks ago.. along with the flowers I noticed the aphids have been doing well... so some brugs are looking like this.. and other brugs have not a single one on them... almost like they are immune.. or at least distasteful... I should be breeding these.. nice to grow the ones that the insects won't have anything to do with..
I did spray everything with a mix of bug b gone.. seven.. and malathion.. all together and sprayed on them all

I got to thinking at the mention of aphids maybe that is what is wrong with a couple of mine but the leaves don't look like that. I need to take a picture and post it here. Maybe someone can tell me what the problem is.

MMMMM did you look on the bottom of the leaves also... it might take a lens to see the tiny ones... sometimes spyder mites will leave a leaf looking like that... butthey will be visable on the unnderside of the leaf...
other wise sometimes a nutrient defiency will also leave a mottled looking leaf... but I'm less expert in the ins and outs of this problem..
look under the leaf with a magnifing lens as a first step

Cherie,
Use a good magnifying glass and strong light, as the mites are very, very small. More visible is the fine spider webs they spin. I like to use neem oil because at this time of year you don't risk leaf damage. If you use pharmaceutical grade neem oil, it is safe to use. Neem oil can also be used as a soil soak for gnats.

For a really bad infestation, remove all, but the smallest leaves before spraying. Repeat about a week later to make sure you get newly hatched pests. I just noticed spider mites in my greenhouse. There it is easier to use a systemic although it takes longer to see the results. I prefer to use the pelleted form of Bayer's systemic for ease of use and I avoid inhaling any spray. If I have a very bad infestation, I apply the systemic followed immediately by the neem oil spray for quicker results.

I've been lurking for the last few months because our new house was nearing completion and I had to deal with all the complications that come with a new house. We are still half in the new house and half out of the old. I was crazy to think everything would be fine once the house was completed. Now, I have to deal with workmen fixing the things have have gone wrong. I told my DH that I would never go through this again.

Cherie... yes... even the worst of things have their limits in the universe... there's just so much terrible available ... that soon it too shall pass.. although ..if you think winter came with the first snows of October here... maybe two months early.. guess we could go two months on the other side as well... that's got us into June with winter... The October snow was the biggest so far... and it's been fairly mild and pleasant since.. it prompted one to remark it was the winter that never was..
I've blooms on a brug every day since they were put away... I don't know if I should keep them going warm @ about 65* F or drop them down 25* F to about 40... and then await their waking up when it does get warmer.. it looks cold up there where you are though.. 20's is plenty cold to cause things to happen... snow ,black ice.. power outages... keep warm...

not to worry Doris... I ask for something to start with... as it's better than payrolling every ones desire.. coming out even ... not considering the time and effort is fine.. as I'd been given.. and still am the receiver of lots.. and am happy to pay some for the privilege as well... good luck with them..
