Well... perhaps I should start a new thread... as ol man winter was here last week... today however seems like spring... what a relief.... I know time has picked up it's speed as I've started to age... but to have it miss winter entirely is such a joy... there I was thinking it would be skipping over some more loved things as I started ageing... not my miseries... hurrayyyy
and to prove the point... inside the cool room... which is only about 8' X 10 ' there's a few dozen fresh open flowers happening... red /pinks doubles /singles... it's a virtual celebration of spring...
I'd post a picture... but the main computer is out to CA for a bit of work on it's ageing issues.. due back Thursday.. perhaps later I can get a 2 x 4 and see if I can't get the beat the pictures on this machine... and move them onto a removable solid state storage stick and put them back on my main machine when it returns..
Hurray!

I don't just take off the large leaves, I bust off all the new growth altogether.

I may be doing just that today. Can't see the mites by I know they must be there. They just love those tender new green leaves, do't they?

I'd let them [spyder mites ] over take an ivy I had .....and then they got onto a blooming plumeria before I noticed them..... after a couple of spraying s of Judo on everything I don't seem to have them at all now.. that stuff works great.. they are about impossible to rid ones self of them... especially after they get a foot hold enough to engulf a plant... but I seem to have done so... the morning glories I have sprouting out inside are always the host for them... also... but I've been pulling them out as they emerge... this year.. although I do enjoy their winter flowers... just my clearodendrum blooming now inside.. and the dozens blooming in the cool room... with almost no light... but great humidity...[ 75% ] they would be so happy with 60 * F temperatures and high humidity... inside with 70's*F and great light ... they don't do nearly as well... now I'd buy a humidifier before supplementary lighting... they would get more out of it..
Yes Cherie... they like the tips the best... that's why they like the morning glories best... as there must be greater engery boost to the mites... eatting the juices from the fast growing tips of the plants

I run a vaporizer during the day in the sun room. I[ve noticed from keeping track of temps and humidity inside and out for three years that humidity goes way down during the day especially if the sun is shining bright. Haven't really noticed at lot of insect problem this year and I want to attribute that to the vaporizer. The past 3 years, I was the insecticidal queen of the sun room. I think keeping the leaves off and running the vaporizer is helping big time.

oh.. it's a high end miticide... it kills them and eggs,, it's a systemic.. it builds up in the plant and keeps on killing.. it's a translaminar... as it is sprayed on one side of the leaf.. goes through the leaf and kills them on the other side also.. I did a co-op buy for it last year or the year before... where I got a small quantity and broke it up among 6 or 8 members so it became almost affordable..you use so little of itso I still have a little..

Well the mites have been gone now for a week,I took eack plant into the kitchen sink and sprayed them with soap, let it sit a couple of minutes then sprayed with warm water cleaned them completely, so far it's good.

there's likely a smaller quantity sold... but I know not where it is right now.. that was the beauty of buying with friends... is it made it affordable....
although I did get a letter from an arm of the manufacturer.... making me aware of the federal law that prohibits the breaking it up into smaller amounts and selling it... I wasn't selling it though.. just dividing it among members of the group.. no profit.. no sale..
http://www.jrjohnson.com/produ...
judo is god in that it isn't one the mites have seen before... and it works on broad mites ... which I believe I had... small crinkley leaves is the tale tale sign... not the webbing... which is likely the two spotted mite.. or one of the other more easily controlled mites

Is that the price for a pint or a gallon? Hard to tell by the pic.

Might be interested in some of that next time you do that, Gordon. Since I am dealing with a large quantity of plants, and with them coming in from all places, you can imagine the livestock that comes with it.
