I think rescue orchids are always over-achievers.
Because:
They managed to live, so are rewarding you bountifully for saving them?
Or they lived because they were over-achievers?
That is the question....

Thanks Daisy, Gigi and Alice, I guess I have put a lot of work into these but a lot of the credit for getting these where they are goes to some great people here at ATP when I first brought these guys home from Walmart last June.

Yep, Lindsey, I got it from Rafael at Plantio la Orquidea here in Sarasota, but I must admit I've had my eye out for more Phaius since then (maybe 3 yr. ago) and haven't seen any. Chapman's up in Apopka used to carry lots of Phaius, too.
You still need to get down for a visit to Plantio, Tropiflora and Selby. The next Festival at Tropiflora is the first weekend in April. It's fairly likely I'll be out of town (greeting the new grandbaby in Salt Lake City) but you and Jim should certainly get on down here!

In the meanwhile, I took some pictures today, playing with ultra tiny blooms.
Remember the Oberonia toppingii? The whole clump of fans is smaller than the palm of my hand. The individual blooms are the size of small pinheads!!
Buds at the tail end of the dangling spikes, ready to pop
And here are some attempts to show details of open "blooms"
Another mini is this Maxillaria minuta with is yearly flush of tiny blooms which are less than a cm in size
And a third one is Ceratostylis philippinensis with its teensy numerous white blooms.
These plants are amongst the group of small species which I have hanging over the fish tank for extra humidity. Every so often I pour the fish tank water over them. Seems ok.
