Jim I agree that first one is gorgeous! And may I say Drooling again on your cymbidium!

Patty I love them all! Now, I have a lot of orchids hat are still in pots. You are making me want to put them in baskets like you have and let them hang on my oak trees! I might try that to get them off my front porch.

Thank You! Everyone!

Elaine, I have a few TINY (like keiki sized) of the canary...I'd be happy to share!

Gigi, I have LOTS in pots too...and LOTS mounted...and don't even get me started on all the baskets (especially since I started making the beaded hangers!)!

To give me even more hanging space I have taken to putting 10 ft sections of copper pipe across 2 shepard's hooks! Is there ever really enough space for all the orchids you own? Rolling on the floor laughing

I would love to have another shot at the Yellow Song 'Canary', Patty. Let's leave the keikis on your plant for a little while though. I can get them any time.

I did the same thing for more hanging space, only I used bamboo since I have such an over-abundant supply of it. I had to tie mine up to the top support of the pool cage so it doesn't blow over, though.

They're not actually keiki's Elaine, just keiki SIZED...one even has a few little blooms on it!

No rush you can get it anytime!

Your bamboo is also great...but it looks like you're ready for another one! Thumbs up

Rolling on the floor laughing MY credit cards are on the bank's side!

I think I've sent out over 100 resumes in the last few weeks...if I don't get something SOON I may be selling my orchids to pay the mortgage!

I do have a show this weekend...and there's a 80% chance of rain both Saturday and Sunday! I just can't win! Sighing!

Daisy, reference your question about Zootrophions and why they are hard to grow. I'm not sure why you asked me as I think Ursula would have a better chance of growing them than I do. I always thought of them as similar to Pleurothallis, ie. tiny cool growing orchids at home on the side of a mountain in tropical America. They have a narrow temperature tolerance (60 to 80 degrees) and they like a dry season of very little moisture. I think the summers here in Florida would put them into the indoor plant category for me. Ursula?

Nope, I can't go on a Friday because I have a standing appointment that afternoon. Very sadly! We were going to Orlando, in fact DH went without me today and that would have been a chance for me to at least drop in at First Orchids. My back is giving me fits and I just couldn't see standing around watching golfers all day Thursday, so it wasn't worth it for me to make the trip.

I can keep Zootrophions alive for several years and then I will lose them during hot Summer weather outside. They do quite well indoors over the fish tanks with lots of humidity and plenty rain water for me.

My house main electrical panel is on life support at the moment. I can't even run the heat/AC..I've had one company come out and give me a $2300. estimate to modernize it. I feel your pain , Patty! I had a job interview today with Beall's ( a small department store in my neighborhood) which will help with the unplanned expenses. If I can just pass the criminal and alcohol tests Whistling

Zootrophion is one of the orchids I picked up late last summer at an orchid swap. I got it because I liked the name (and had never heard of it before). It might be in trouble as soon as summer shows up. I have it hidden in a corner, behind other plants and over the pond. If it dies, I will understand why. My greenhouse often hits 100. My misters are currently going off every 3 hours and the humidity on the outside wall still falls to 15% in the middle of the day.

Thank you for your answers! Thank You! Maybe I'll fit it for a terrarium in the house for the summer.

You have quite the challenge there, @daisyl. I could not possibly grow my tropicals inside greenhouses during the spring and summer months. It is a pain in the bu** moving approximately 1000 plants outside in the spring and then back inside in the fall, but I have no choice. The temperature inside my greenhouses easy reaches 115F during sunny, summer days, when the outside temperature is in the low to mid-90's. It will be over 120F when the outside temperature in above that. That's with four fans running, all vents and doors wide open, and 80% shade cloth! Sighing!

It still remains unknown whether I will have to put up shade cloth over the new solarium. The space is climate controlled with AC, but I might have to "aid" the AC with shading. I hope I do not. I love seeing the sky above and putting a shade cloth that size (15'x32') will be somewhat of a chore. Time will tell. We have only gotten up to 87F so far this year and the solarium was comfortable. I haven't even run the AC yet, just some fans.

Ken, Florian offered to install a retractable shade over my greenhouse to be powered by a motor/operated by the push of a button. I declined because I empty out my greenhouse every Spring, but this is something to consider.
