They look good. Some sure look like they've grown big enough to put on a scape!

Sabrina - I've had blooms on fans much smaller than what yours appear to be! I would not be one bit surprised that some of those babies bloom for you this year! Keep the Faith! Thumbs up

Sabrina,
Your babies are looking so much better :hurray:
Mine have been living in their little pots outdoors, and their growth has slowed a lot because the weather has been cold. It is going to be very warm this weekend, so that should move them along. I have the new bed for them all ready, and I think I will plant the larger ones in the ground in early June.

I put my seedlings outside for their first night. They are still in the flats and on a rack with three shelves. The temperature is supposed to be 43 tonight. I hope I didn't rush it. I too plan to get them in the ground right away in June.

Can someone tell me about using peroxide to start dl seeds? I really want these to germinate.
We not have the wedding over and I have some nice crosses that I want to get planted. I had forgotten them in the back of the fridge.

I put 1/2 cup peroxide per gallon of water. I used it to germinate (between paper towels) and I used it to water the seedlings once I planted them.

I don't always measure, just a few squirts in the gallon jug of Spring water that I use to start seeds with.

I don't always measure, either. I just dump a tablespoon or two, eyeballing it, into a 16-20 oz plastic (former iced tea) bottle.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

The best ratio I found when I did some testing was probably somewhere between 1:5 and 1:9 of peroxide:water (that assumes drugstore strength peroxide which is 3%). I wrote up the results somewhere in another thread but I don't remember which. The traditional recommendation is 1:9. This is for soaking in the solution. You just drop the seeds into the peroxide solution and set the containers somewhere out of the sun until the seeds start to germinate. I would remove them at that point. It may be beneficial to occasionally change the solution to fresh but I didn't really test that. If the solution is too weak then it may not work any better than soaking in plain water, and soaking daylily seeds in plain water slows down germination.

Stratification is more reliable than soaking in peroxide but takes a bit longer if starting from scratch.

I don't soak my seeds in H2 O2, but I do add peroxide to the water I use every time I water my seedlings after I've plated the seeds in cups. About once a week in the Winter.

Yes!!
I found (the beginnings of) a scape in one of my seedlings!! Lovey dubby Lovey dubby
The cross is New Paradigm x Voilet Stained Glass and it is a seedling from last Autumn.
Thumb of 2016-05-24/Mayo62/784c59

Perhaps I should remove it to give the small fan an extra year to grow before it gives all it's energy to a scape & flower..? Sad

So -
suppose you remove the scape and let it grow an extra year. Then when there are more fans and you let it bloom, then find the bloom isn't good. You've given a lot of time and space and some care to something you ultimately don't find worthy. I'd let it bloom. If the plant is finding its circumstances good enough, it will be successful and you'll have a better idea of what you have.
