Alas.. :
Do you offer international shipping?
This seller doesn't offer international shipping Sad

But I can wage biological warfare here: I can buy Steinernema feltiae nematodes and they usually get rid of the gnats real fast Thumbs up
I just didn't pay enough attention to what was happening Whistling

Most survived by the way and are doing quite fine Thumbs up

I was curious what everyone is doing to prevent weeds in the seedling patch while they are so tender. Do you hand pull or putting down plastic/landscape fabric ?? Also how tall do you let them get before transplanting. I want my babies to make it lol.

hand pull almost daily through summer Thumbs down landscape fabric works to suppress weeds but if you plain on dividing the plants once older it can get in the way. Also cheep landscape fabric is a waste of money only get woven ground cover or woven landscape fabric. it's about 100 bucks for a 4ft X 300ft roll but will last for years and years unlike the 15 year crap that claims it will hold up for 15 years this stuff really does. I use it under my potted plants and around most of my tress unless I'm planting other things under the tree. For my Dl seedlings I just hand pull the weedsand use some pine needles to suppress a few weeds but it's mainly there to stop the ground from drying out too fast

Being old,not real ambitious, but motivated by all of you getting to look at seedlings blossoming I dabbded last summer. Took seeds out of the pods, planted them in pots and put pots in the ground last fall. Mulched them after hard frosts. About a week ago I planted, had some space in my semi failed asparagus bed. Here are pictures:

the pot picture was taken the third week of April; plants in the ground were taken today. Germination seemed relevant to the pod parent; either prolific or a bust. Probably will have to wait to 2018 for the first flowers. Thanks to you all for posts!! Have to enjoy all your seedling picture for the next few years.

I planted 48 of my seedlings in the ground yesterday. Almost all are seedlings from seeds that were sent to me by Cindy (Hemlady - thank you, Cindy). The only seedlings that are not Cindy's crosses are from a bee pod on Dragons Eye. I have 40 more seedlings to plant out. These were started a bit later, so I am going to let them grow in their pots a bit longer.

They are planted in a daylily seedling bed that we dug in the area where my husband cut down about 1/2 acre of trees 18 months ago. We have had to clear away all the debris, take away the branches and cut up the tree trunks, then dig and get any weeds out. I sure hope these seedlings appreciate this!

Mine are suffering through lean times due to a delay in getting most of them out of their 3.5" seedling pots.

This one is a bit impatient, as it was from a batch of seed sown in October 2015.

Weeds in the seedling beds are a problem since we grow a few thousand seedlings. I use pre-emergent the second year and try to pull weeds before that but it gets away from me. We had 5 new seedling beds last fall and kept good weed control in of 2 out of 5. Not very good. I am finished making crosses for the most part this year and will be working on those beds to get them clean and then I will use the pre-emergent. Meanwhile, I am making more seedling beds for plant this fall.

I finally got a picture of my seedling bed. Seeds were collected in 2015 and planted the house in 2016 from late January through April. Got them planted in the ground, finally, in late mid June. It's been a super busy summer this year with seedlings, remodeling, hosting a family reunion, and keeping up with all the flower gardens.

The smaller seedlings are in the foreground and bigger (older) ones at the other end.

@petruske You have been busy. Is that a fence around your seedlings? If so, is it purely decorative or is it meant to keep critters out?

Wow, those seedlings look fantastic, Sue! They are so grown already. Do you think they will bloom next year? I hope some will bloom for you! Look forward to seeing their pics next year. Best of luck!

Wow, nice work! They've really grown. You're going to have *so* much fun when those start popping. How many seedlings? Do you get reliable snow cover, or will you need to mulch?

One thing about the picture I'm not familiar with—what is that bare strip running down the middle? Whistling

@amberjewel - No, not a fence they are 24" PVC pipe (stakes) that are numbering the rows. I made a chart that lets me know which seedlings are planted in each row. I think there are about 101 rows. Most rows have 5 to 8 seedlings. A few have up to 22 (one stake represents multiple rows as they are all from the same cross). The stakes in the middle are to keep the hose away from the seedlings when I have to water them.

@kousa - I'm not expecting any blooms next year in my zone 5a. But hopefully in 2018 I will have lots. Crossing Fingers!

@CaliFlowers - I have 648 seedling planted in there. Too close I'm sure. I figured I'd lose some and they will make room for themselves. But, not so far. In fact, a number of them are already sending out multiple fans. Confused I didn't expect that. We do get snow cover...but never know how much there will be. I think I should at least put up a barrier to protect from the wind. Not sure yet what to do about that. The bare row down the middle is just so I have room to water and weed.

But after a really problematic start they survived and now are growing well in their new bed!
Sue, sometimes I'd wish to have the space for 600 seedlings but sometimes I realize it's better I have not!

Sue - With the pvc stakes, you could run a row cover over each side in the winter to protect them. That's what I would do. Your method of growing seedlings looks awesome! I'm impressed with how many you are able to squeeze in there.
