My sister asked me last week if I remembered the slips with the stiff skirts attached ..to poof out our dresses. I sure do..pinched the crap out of me.

And the stretchy cloth headbands in every color...too tight!

And those HORRIBLE angora sweaters...itch...scratch...sure were pretty tho.

Rosie,
Our Slo Pokes were dark. If you sucked on it it would stretch, or you could bite off a piece at the risk of a broken tooth.
The taffy was about a foot long, flat and about 3'' wide. All flavors, but I did like the banana.
I can see the package but not the name. I think it cost a dime.
We also had foot ling pink gum in a roll.
Wafers and playing Mass cracked me up, but the collecting, oh my!!

Ronnie,
Not Smarties. It's too spicy. It drives me nuts. It used to grow wild down the RR tracks and I would pick a blossom on my walk and just inhale it.
Awesome reason to grow lilacs!

Julie,
Yes, I'll bet she is.
Don't remember the Lik-m-aid, but do the pop bottles and yes, thumbs down on those!!

Rosie,
Those awful Fizzies have a special place in my heart. When I was little we had what we called the cabin. It was a one room trailor with a screened in porch built on. My Grandma always had Fizzies and we had them in the aluminum glasses while we played with paper dolls.
Oh my, the wax lips!! Such fun to ''put them on!''

I never had to dress that fancy for church, but I had headbands. :o)

I used to hold the fizzies between the thumb and the index finger...get it real wet with spit and let it fizz and eat. Of course I would LOAD (absolutely STUFF tobursting ) my pockets with italian-made Brioschi ( bet you don't know what that is....) and it it all day! I feel like I should look over my shoulder in case my mom is listening. Lemon Lime Fizzzzzzzz heaven

Oh! I remember paper dolls..with those little tags to hold the clothes on....

Oh and the COLORFORMS kitchen...with the oven that had a real "door" that opened and cabinets too!

That fancy dress...listen in my house ( and all the others on the 'block'...a fancy sunday dress was a must...the young mothers all compared....it did not matter if the rest of the week we were in rags...and with a family as big as my dad had ...14 children...all in one state of "Papa...I need" or another... Mom said as long as your clothes are clean...don't matter if they are hole-y or patched.

Rosie,
LOVED Colorforms! I forget what we had at home, but my cousins had an elaborate Micky Mouse one. I bought my daughter Garfield and another when she was a kid and bought the grandkids a board game with heads, where you spin and if it's a hat, peel off a hat. But none compare to Micky Mouse.

And the handlebar streamers....mine were red, white ,and blue.
Those skates shrunk and stretched and worked just fine.
I just LOVED the plastic 'high heels' plastic with gold sparkles..
And those halloween costumes...in boxes with the cellophane 'window' -- those horrid masks and the sparkles that went EVERYWHERE!

I.asked my grandson if he wanted to play " hit the stick" -- he looked at me like I had 3 heads

I pulled out pick up sticks and he was amazed -- I think he rather enjoyed it. The sticks were plastic 😣

Except for my female cousins, no one remembers the inflatable half slips, they really stood out there, Thumbs up

The only time I ever would get taffy was when my GF was going somewhere that I couldn't go and he would bring one back for me. It was long and 3 or 4" wide, pastel colors with a white stripe down the middle Drooling

Ginger,
I'm too young for skate keys, but not the cards hitting the spokes. DH put them on the grandkids bikes.
Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I'll bet these days jacks are plastic too. Why not?

Rosie,
We had the plastic wigs. Three of them! My sister and I wore them for Halloween. In 1977 I found them in the top of the wardrobe. I'll have to look for pictures.
I loved Pick Up Sticks too!

Jolana,
Yes! I think we ate the same Taffy!

Have we mentioned straws. The kind that could have killed us when we accidentally inhaled the powder? Loved those!!

I had skates with keys and was so envious that my girlfriend had nice shiny white booted ones Whistling

You can get metal jacks on line, think I'll look for them, it was one of my favorite games. My granddaughters would love them.

There is a store we go to that sells a lot of the "old fashioned" candy. Doesn't always taste the same but nice to see it.
We called the sugar straws "Pixie Sticks"

My first bike was purple with a banana seat and sissy bar and yes it got cards in the spokes Hilarious! Hurray!

What is a sissy bar?
Our bikes got handed down...gender neutral...I was second to LAST and so...maybe the sissy bar was gone?

I REMEMBER THAT STRIPED TAFFY! I had forgotten it.

Do you remember the straws with CHOCOLATE doen the middle...

And....my sis had an inflatable bra... Then she had these rubber inserts ....one popped out in the pool...when she went under.....it wanted to float on top. I should not laugh...toilet tissue did not work well for other reasons.

I had to pull up a photo for my grandkids of the sparkly sugar panorama easter egg.
And the marshmallow twists.

The grandson did not believe me when I tokd him there were old world chocolatiers where folks would go right before easter to shop...looooong lines waiting to buy those solid small dark or light chocolate bunnies and chicks

I told him about the small transistor radio that was a BIG deal when we were gifted ....AM only ...had a fake leather covering....mine was pink. Those came from godfather or kind uncles. People with MONEY!!

He asked what my best doll was -- if it was a Barbie. I told him about TRESSY.....
Her long red hair grew via a magic button implanted in her stomach.

Did anyone else's parents give them solid sugar pink mice (with inedible string tails) at Christmas, and solid sugar eggs at Easter, or was that just a British thing? That sugar was so hard, you could break a tooth on it. Lasted a long time, though. Reading about all the candy we ate as kids, how did any of our teeth survive?

Oh...I ever had one of those.
I don't remember any kid on the block having those.
Would have been handy for seating two to that long seat..but we had the seat shaped like Mr. Potato head's nose.

@juneOntario

June. No. No candy like that

We had a cookie..calledit Bones of the Dead... Morte..something
I looked for those for years
Hard as ROCKS. Sort of a dark honey molasses color....a brownded marshmallow white something popping out of center...powdery look...like a dried BONE! The insde of that white thing ( which cracked essily) appeared honeycombed...air pockets....
I LOVED THOSE...three small cookies would last an afternoon. I wish I could find them. Italian bakery.

Loved my Tressy! She was the last year I sneaked down to see Christmas. It was dark and I told my sister we got Tressy, and her crows!

June,
Laughing over the mice, but none in Iowa!

Rosie,
And two we did ride! My sister was riding a friend home from uptown. Her friend had bought a loaf of bread and was smacking my sister with it. It broke... They gave her another loaf.
STRANGE cookie!!

My bike was yellow with a banana seat and sissy bar. It's behind my sisters. We were on our way to Sunday School.
