Daisy, your Honohono looks really nice!

Patty, I think yours is very pretty too, look at all those buds still to open! And I love the Vanda lamellata!

Patty, I love that big Den. I have the same problem with Phals, but it certainly isn't rain! I blame the heat and lack of humidity here. The only place I can keep them alive is in the house...which has a swamp cooler that gets turned on any time the 83 deg. shows on the controller. Cooler is cheap to run and my comfort zone is 73-83 these days.

The swamp cooler is the ideal choice for those wanting cooler temperatures and higher humidity. AC would give the coolness but take out the moisture.

Wonderful show, Patty and I'm with you on the Phals, too. One of mine opened a flower today, but the foliage sure doesn't look great on any of them.

Most of the folks around here can't afford to run their air conditioners, plus they frequently blow the circuits. Swamp cooler aren't even readily available in Orange County , but I won't live without mine. The Marketing theory is that it's too humid here for them to be effective. The market needs to be brought up to date!

I have thinned out the Phal. I am keeping 4 - just 4. A white one a adopted from my Phal murdering mother in law. A peach one - a good bloomer and also a rescue from M in L. A shell pink one because its so pretty and a strangly yellowy-red one. Oh and a pocka dotted white and dark pink. All are good bloomers with multiple branches on each flower stem. The rest will go to the orchid swap in June.

I'll send photos of the "keepers" when I'm not on my tablet.

@SarasotaPatty try mounting your phals on your plumeria trees. I gave up on mine and decided to attached them on my plumerias and wrapped stockings around them and stuff the stockings with orchid barks. I checked them today and they have baby leaves Hurray! Hurray!

After six days, the 'Elmhurst' has changed from the lime coloration to a pastel, yellow. This is what she always does and her fragrance can be smelled from 10 ft. away. The 'Little Stars' have fully opened but I never remember to check their fragrance before going to bed. I need to do that.

Patty, that vanda is simply beautiful! Making me Drooling

My Miltassia has opened all of it's 4 blooms, and I'm really loving it.

Tara, I finally went back and found the pictures of the one I had that was similar to yours. It was Beallara Tahoma Glacier, and both Jim and Ted had one the same. All ours weren't quite as brightly colored as yours, but certainly the same shape.

As far as the little black spots go, I'd keep an eye on them but don't worry unless they spread, or get a lot bigger. Looks like most of the leaves are nice and clean.

I tip my hat to you. Lindsey. I have approximately 3 dozen orchids that are NOIDs. Like you, I have to wait for them to bloom and then I'll know what each is. This 'Elmhurst' was a NOID that was easily identified. She was a division taken two years ago and she was an "A" NOID. She was one of four that were only labeled with the "A" label, so I was able to label four plants at one time. Hurray!

lucky you!
I thought I kept a great journal of all my incoming plants. Some I buy in bloom, but most not. When this bloomed,
I did not recognize the flower, so I went to my journal of my old collection and eliminated all the plants I had sold or given away when I went sailing. That left about 100 plants. So I took out the ones that came back from Miami WITH their tags...this left about 30 plants. . . and NONE of those 30 names look anything like this flower. So either a plant was mis tagged to begin with ( and that's happened to me before!) or...more likely....I bought 20 plants and only entered 19 into my journal. I sent an email to the 2 growers in Hawaii that I bought most of my plants from. Reid Kawamoto wrote back very quickly that he thought it might be C. Hawaiian variable...a name that rings NO BELLS...H & R orchids have not responded to my email. I put the photo on a Florida Orchid Grower FB page and one of the members thought it might be related to Penny Kudra (sp?)...which is a plant I have coveted...I think Ursula has one with the name 'Spots' on it.

This is the first time I have bloomed my favorite. Dendrobium harveyanum. Difficult to find and to grow. I had 6 buds on this first bloomed seedling. 3 blasted during our move (stress) and three bloomed. I love it.
